Peter was born on October 11, 1967 in Frankfurt, Germany. It was West Germany at that time. His father was Klaus Friedrich Thiel and his mother was Susanne Thiel. Even while Peter was an infant, the family shifted to Cleveland, Ohio. There Klaus worked as a chemical engineer. Peter also has a younger brother by the name of Patrick Michael Thiel.

Education

Before the Thiel family settled in Foster City, California, in 1977, they spent some years in Namibia and South Africa. During that time, Peter attended elementary schools. Career Beginnings

Peter started working full-time as a judicial clerk for Judge James Larry Edmondson. This was at the US Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. After this, he started working as a securities attorney at Sullivan & Cromwell. After having spent seven months at the firm, Peter got chosen as a derivatives trader at Credit Suisse. This was before he started working as a speechwriter for William Bennett, who was a former US Secretary of Education.

Peter started his own company in 1996. He named it Thiel Company Management. It is an investment fund management company. After two years of successfully running his company, Peter co-founded Confinity Inc. which was a software company. His partners in the new business were Luke Nosek and Max Levchin. He said that people go for college when they do not know what to do in life, followed by a graduate degree when they do not know what to do in college.
