Yoga Equipment Dictionary

Think back to your grade school experience. Did you look forward to school? Did you truly enjoy school? Did you feel that what you were learning was meaningful and relevant to your life? Were you able to explore your true interests and fully develop your innate abilities?

If you answered "no" to any of the above questions, how would your school experience have had to be different for you to be able to say "yes"?

Now, imagine if you had attended a school where the only curriculum you followed was the one you created by discovering and exploring your interests. Imagine if you were not tested unless you asked to be. Imagine if electing your teachers was a normal yearly affair. And imagine if it all happened in a respectful, democratic community.

Non-dualism is the highest Vedantic truth. Only Brahman exists. The pluralistic world as we experience it is merely a figment of the imagination. An illusion.

At the highest level Vedanta does not encourage any discussion on the nature of the world and its cause. That would merely be emphasising the reality of something which does not exist. It focuses on the direct experience of Reality.

Tai Chi Chuan is one way of working towards harmonising our energies both internally and externally so that we live in tune with nature. Because the movements of Tai Chi Chuan are slow and meditative, they put us indirect contact with nature.

Tai Chi Chuan not only provides a foundation for self-defence, but also teaches principles of harmonious action. Being in harmony requires flexibility in thought and the ability to release an idea free from the ego.

Tai Chi Chuan emphasises becoming aware of the inter-relationship of all the parts of one'sbody - both with one another and with the environment and moving these parts harmoniously under the direction of the mind. To be able to do this, special training is required.

Hutterites

Also called Hutterian Brethren, an Anabaptist group of Moravian origin taking its name from Jacob Huter (martyred 1536). After years of enforced migration through central and eastern Europe, the Hutterites finally abandoned the Ukraine to settle in the northern American prairies in the 1870s.

Hutterites differ from other groups of Anabaptist origin such as the Amish, whom they resemble in many ways, primarily in holding goods communally. This practice, together with their use of modern farming equipment, has given them an economic advantage often leading to friction with their neighbors and has led in part to their migration from the Dakotas to the prairie provinces of Canada. Currently, there are about three hundred Hutterite colonies, or family-based settlements, in North America.

Exercises performed on the floor, or on specialized equipment, Pilates coordinates mind, body and breath to develop sleek and functionally strong abdominal muscles, a strong and supple back, and aligns the shoulder girdle.

Vagina Dentata

( Latin, "vaginal teeth") Motif in stories throughout North and South America, Siberia, Northern Russia, and Greenland. Certain women are depicted as having the teeth of a rattlesnake or some other serpent set in their vaginas.

They kill men who would have intercourse with them. As a result, these women may collect the deceased men's hunting equipment, but often these women are able to hunt with their toothed vaginas. A culture hero, sometimes acting the role of a young husband, is often involved in breaking and wearing down the vaginal teeth with a wedge or stone penis, so that intercourse does not end in death.
