Yin and Yang in Buddhism

A selection of articles related to Yin and Yang in Buddhism:

Yin and Yang: Principle of polarity in Chinese cosmology, in which the opposite poles eventually blend and become one another in a cosmic connectedness.

The gory massacre at Godhra and the subsequent retaliatory slaughter throughout Gujarat underlines how easily communal passions can be aroused among otherwise normal people. A major cause for such behaviour is a mindset, found both among Muslims and Hindus, that believes that tolerance is a sign of weakness. Convinced about the infallibility of their own faith, they are totally intolerant to the views of others

* Tolerance the Key To Lasting Peace

The gory massacre at Godhra and the subsequent retaliatory slaughter throughout Gujarat underlines how easily communal passions can be aroused among otherwise normal people.

A major cause for such behaviour is a mindset, found both among Muslims and Hindus, that believes that tolerance is a sign of weakness. Convinced about the infallibility of their own faith, they are totally intolerant to the views of others. Bolstered by the exhortations of their religious and political leaders, they feel no compunctions in smashing all that stands in their way including the laws of the land.

* Drawing The Line - LoC To Infinity

There'sa crooked line drawn on land: One side of it is called India, the other side, Pakistan. People living on either side of this human made line could well kill one another - in fact, precious lives have been sacrificed to ensure that the line stays where it is.

You cannot have only peace, only love or only light, how much ever you wish it were so. Yin and Yang, Shiv and the Shakti, Krishna and Radha, are in perfect equilibrium in the cosmos. Their play is this universe, without and within. This unceasing play of opposites generates infinite hues. Murder and mayhem exist; so do loving and caring.

* Significant Gravity Of Deep Thought

Swiss scientists have recently discovered that sending a very weak current to the back of the right side of the brain triggered an out-of-body experience (OBE) for the patient.

This OBE could be produced at will whenever a particular part of the brain was stimulated by an electric current. OBE is also one of the major outcomes of yoga and is mentioned in the vibhuti pad of Patanjali's Yoga Darshan . Naturally a yogi has to practise years of tapasya or meditation before she can achieve an OBE and sense of levitation. Interestingly, technology seems to allow this pleasurable experience quite easily.

* Stillness in Movement - The Way of Tai Chi

Tai Chi, the ancient martial art form, is not only about movements. It is also about the principles behind the movements following which you can discover the stillness in movement and the energy that flows through you. Its first principle is: Go slow.

As you do the movements, pretend you are the tortoise in the race against the hare. Rushing gets you nowhere, certainly not to mindful balance and definitely not to enlightenment. Discover the stillness in slow movements and the movement in quiet stillness.

* Encyclopedia II - Buddhism in Vietnam - Formation and Spread of Buddhism in Vietnam

Buddhism was imported into Vietnam fairly early, at around the beginning of the Christian Era with the legend of Chữ Đồng Tử studying Buddhism from an Indian monk. Luy Lau (in Bac Ninh Province), the capital of Jiaozhi District (Giao Chỉ) soon became an important center of Buddhism. Legends about Thạch Quang Phật and Man Nương Phật Mẫu appeared with the teachings of Ksudra in around 168-189. Because Buddhism was imported directly from India, the word Buddha was directly imported into Vietnamese as Bụt, stil ...

Daoist Immortal and Buddhist Bodhisattva - Kuan Yin!

Are Buddhism and Daoism really so different or is their one source for the two? Shaolin Martial Arts for instance celebrates Taoism's fundemental association kung fu's origins in conjunction with the tremendous development of Martial Arts following the arrival at the Shaolin Temple, in 520 BCE, of Bodhidarma, First Patriarch of Chan Buddhism. Regarding further links between the two belief systems this article considers the origins of Kuan Shih Yin - Daoist Immortal and Buddhist Bodhisattva!

Chinese Religion: Taoism

You are no doubt familiar with the harmonizing symbol of yin and yang: the mystical circle encasing rolling waves of black and white. Within the black wave rides a white dot, and conversely, a black dot is seen in the white wave. Most know its connection to the idea of yin and yang, but few know the origin of yin and yang, or anything more of Taoist thought.
