Antinomianism

The word comes from the Greek anti, against, and nomos, law. It is practice of using God's grace as a license to sin, and trusting grace to cleanse of sin.

In other words, since grace is infinite and we are saved by grace, then we can sin all we want and still be saved. Paul speaks against the concept of antinomianism in Romans 6: 1-2: "Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?".

Ascended Masters

Those who are believed to have reached the highest level of spiritual consciousness and have become guides in the spiritual evolution of mankind, such as Jesus and St. Germaine. Sometimes called the Great White Brotherhood.

According to many, they can supposedly communicate spiritual truths to humans through channeling or other occult techniques. Astral Body

The soul. That part of the individual which dwells on the astral plane. The densest part of the individual to survive death. That vehicle through which one astral travels. The emotional body.

Apocalypse

Also called Armageddon. From the Greek word apokalypsis, meaning "revelation, disclosure, or unveiling," the term apocalypse refers in the Bible to the final battle in human history through God will judge the world.

Central in biblical apocalyptic literature is the Revelation to John (sometimes called The Apocalypse). A common feature of many pseudo-Christian groups is their attempts to predict the date of the apocalypse.

A method developed in Czechoslovakia to determine a woman's fertile period according to birth data and sun and moon phases.

Arati

The daily service and salutation to a saint or sacred image. Lights, incense and camphor are waved to the accompaniment of bells, drums and conch shells; followed by a traditional chant.

Spiritual Gifts

According to Christian doctrine, special abilities given by God to worthy believers. Every Christian has at least one

Following is a list of the gifts arranged in two groups.

• The first are gifts that require supernatural intervention and are possessed only by true Christians.
• The second are gifts that do not require supernatural intervention. Even non-Christians can have the second group of gifts.

A further issue is whether or not the gifts are still in use today. Some believe they ceased with the apostles and the completion of the writings of the Bible) and they are no longer needed for the building up of the body of Christ (Eph. 4: 12). Others believe the gifts are still in use but not in the pure apostolic sense. In other words, they are still in use but not in the same way possessed by the apostles. Instead, they are available to the believer if and when God decides it is beneficial to use them.

The first group of spiritual gifts are: Salvation, Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge, Faith, Healing, Miracles, Prophecy, Distinguishing of Spirits, Tongues, and Interpretation of Tongues.

The second group of spiritual gifts are: Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Giving, Leading, and Showing mercy.

Reincarnation

Belief that after a person dies, he returns again to the earth, inhabits a new body, and does this as many times as needed to acheive spiritual perfection.

Whereas Hindus typically believe that reincarnation includes transmigration of souls between animal, plant, and even inanimate forms, New Agers believe reincarnation is limited to human and celestial forms. Reincarnation generally assumes a doctrine of karma. The idea is the basis for the practice of attempting past life regression

Blood of Christ

A Christian term describing the mystical power that "saved" mankind from sin at the crucifixion of Jesus. This "blood" supposedly washes the individual from the spiritual consequences of sin if he "believes" in Jesus.

In Astrology, disharmony between two planets that rule or are exalted in opposite signs in astrology. For example, the Sun which rules Leo has an antipathy for Uranus which rules the opposite sign Aquarius
