There were many competitions on SMTV. Vicar: Encyclopedia II - Capuchin - Early setbacks

The new congregation at the outset of its history underwent a series of severe blows. The two founders left it, Matteo di Bassi to return to the Observants, while his first companion, on being superseded in the office of vicar, became so insubordinate that he had to be expelled. The case of the third vicar, Bernardino Ochino, who became a Calvinist, 1543, and married, was even more disastrous. This mishap brought the whole congregation under the suspicion of heretical tendencies and the pope resolved to suppress it; he was with difficulty induced to allow it to continue, but the Capuch ...

Vicar: Encyclopedia II - Rector - Ecclesiastical rectors

Rector - Anglican churches. In the Anglican Church, a rector is one type of parish priest. The term has been re-used to designate the pries ...

Vicar: Encyclopedia II - Parson - In Ireland

In Ulster, in the early 17th century, every parish had a vicar and a parson instead of a co-arb and an erenagh. The vicar, like the co-arb, was always in orders. He said the mass (‘serveth the cure’) and received a share of the tithes. The parson, like the erenagh, had a major portion of the tithes, maintained the church and provided hospitality. As he was not usually in clerical orders, his responsibilities were mainly temporal. However, there were differences in the divisions of the tithes between various dioceses in Tyrone. In the Dio ...

Vicar: Encyclopedia II - Eparchy of Križevci - Formation of the Eparchy of Križevci

The Ottoman wars in Europe caused a number of Christian refugees, mostly Serbs and Vlachs, to migrate to the Military Frontier of the Habsburg Monarchy (in south-central Croatia and in most of Slavonia) during the 16th and 17th centuries. The population was by and large faithful to the Serbian Orthodox Church, but the Roman Catholic Church accorded them a Byzantine vicar of the Latin Bishop of Zagreb in 1611. The Byzantine vicar was based in the monastery of Marča (located near Ivanić Grad, southeast of Zagreb) which would later become a c ...
