| ARTICLES RELATED TO Vicar | | | | | Vicar: Encyclopedia II - Minister Christianity - IssuesThere are contrasting views on the level of remuneration given to ministers relative to the religious community. There is often an expectation that they and their families will eschew ostentation. However there are situations where they are well rewarded for success, whether measured through drawing people to their religious community or enhancing the status or power of the community.
There is some disagreement between denominations and within some denominations as to whether women, and/or people who ar ...

| | | | Vicar: Encyclopedia II - SMTV Live - CompetitionsThere were many competitions on SMTV. Unlike many other Saturday morning children's programmes, SMTV did give away impressive prizes, such as holidays to America for the family, as well as the usual televisions, games consoles and CDs. (Ant famously gave away his own car in one of the earliest episodes) Some of the competitions were phone-ins, though a few were more notable, and had a slot on the show every week.

A parody of the American sitcom Friends. Many recurring themes and plot lines appeared in Chums, such as the romance between Dec and Cat, and their kiss that was interrupted every episode. Every episode when Cat and Dec went to kiss, Dec would say the phrase "Me and Cat, alone in the flat... I think I'm going to kiss her!" When Ant & Dec left the show, their la ...

| | | | | | Vicar: Encyclopedia II - Minister Christianity - Forms of addressIn the majority of churches ordained ministers are titled Reverend, however as above some use the term pastor and others do not use any specific form of address, in which case it would be Mr, Ms, Miss or Mrs as the case may be.
Minister Christianity - Anglican Churches.

| | | | | | Vicar: Encyclopedia II - Capuchin - Early setbacksThe new congregation at the outset of its history underwent a series of severe blows. The two founders left it, Matteo di Bassi to return to the Observants, while his first companion, on being superseded in the office of vicar, became so insubordinate that he had to be expelled. The case of the third vicar, Bernardino Ochino, who became a Calvinist, 1543, and married, was even more disastrous.
This mishap brought the whole congregation under the suspicion of heretical tendencies and the pope resolved to suppress it; he was with difficulty induced to allow it to continue, but the Capuch ...

Rector - Anglican churches.
In the Anglican Church, a rector is one type of parish priest. For historical reasons, some parish priests in the Church of England are called by this term while others are called vicars. Roughly speaking, the distinction was that the rector directly received the tithes of his parish, while a vicar did not, being paid instead a salary (sometimes by his diocese). The term has been re-used to designate the pries ...

| | | | Vicar: Encyclopedia II - Parson - In IrelandIn Ulster, in the early 17th century, every parish had a vicar and a parson instead of a co-arb and an erenagh. The vicar, like the co-arb, was always in orders. He said the mass (‘serveth the cure’) and received a share of the tithes. The parson, like the erenagh, had a major portion of the tithes, maintained the church and provided hospitality. As he was not usually in clerical orders, his responsibilities were mainly temporal. However, there were differences in the divisions of the tithes between various dioceses in Tyrone. In the Dio ...

| | | | | Vicar: Encyclopedia II - Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Portland - Early historyThe origins of the Catholic church in the Oregon Country derive from a July 3, 1834, petition by French prairie settlers to priests in Canada. In response to this petition, missionary priests, Fr. Francis Xavier Norbert Blanchet and Fr. Modeste Demers arrived at Fort Vancouver on November 24, 1838. The first Mass was celebrated on January 6, 1839 at Saint Paul.
On December 1, 1843, the Vatican established the Vicariate Apostolic of the Oregon Territory with Msgr. Blanchet as its first Vicar Apostolic. A Vicar Apostolic is a bishop in ...
