With seven members from Holly Springs and Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Churches in Monroe County, Tennessee and Cherokee County, North Carolina, he organized the Christian Union. These Christians hoped to free themselves from man-made creeds and unite on the principles of the New Testament. In September of 1886, Elder Spurling's son ...

Union with God: Encyclopedia II - God in Buddhism - The God Idea in Early Buddhism

The Buddha of the Pāli suttas (scriptures) dismisses as “foolish talk”, as “ridiculous, mere words, a vain and empty thing” (Digha-Nikaya No. 13, Tevijja Sutta) the notion that Brahmins (the priestly caste), who according to the Buddha have not in fact seen Brahman face to face, can teach others how to achieve union with what they themselves have never beheld. This is not a denial of the existence of Brahman, however, but merely intended (by the Buddha) to indicate the folly of those religious teachers who ...

Union with God: Encyclopedia II - Governor-General of the Union of South Africa - Republicanism

The Afrikaner-dominated National Party, which came to power in 1948, was avowedly republican, and regarded South Africa's links with the Crown as a relic of British imperialism. In 1957, God Save the Queen ceased to have equal status with Die Stem van Suid-Afrika as a national anthem, and the Britis ...

Union with God: Encyclopedia II - Henana of Adiabene - Christological dispute

Theodore held that a union of the two natures in Christ was unthinkable. Henana on the other hand favored a union of the two natures, the divine and the mortal, in Christ in one hypostasis, as specified in Chalcedon in 451. Accordingly, he believed in God's suffering on the Cross, impossible without a union between the two natures, and he accepted the decisions of Ephesus and believed that the term 'mother of God' was appropriate for the Virgin Mary. Theodore had taught that man was created mortal. Henana believed that Adam was initia ...

For some Christians, union with God is a paramount purpose of religion. Christians believe that God is seeking union with His creature, Man. Prayer is the expression of the soul seeking to speak with God. The Christian seeks to raise the mind as well as the heart to God. Prayer, as discourse with a friend, is not constrained, ...

Union with God: A Christian Theological Dictionary on Hypostatic Union

A Christian theological definition of Hypostatic Union according to CARM - The Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry:

"

Hypostatic Union

This is the union of the two natures (Divine and human) in the person of Jesus. Jesus is God in flesh (John 1:1,14; 10:30-33; 20:28; Phil. 2:5-8; Heb. 1:8). He is fully God and fully man (Col. 2:9); thus, He has two natures: God and man. He is not half God and half man. He is 100% God and 100% man. He never lost his divinity.1 He continued to exist as God when He became a man and added human nature to Himself (Phil. 2:5-11). Therefore, there is a "union in one person of a full human nature and a full divine nature."2 Right now in heaven there is a man, Jesus, who is our Mediator between us and God the Father (1 Tim. 2:5). (For related information on Jesus and His two natures, see Incarnation, and the errors concerning His natures known as Eutychianism, Monophycitism, and Nestorianism.)

Union with God: Encyclopedia II - Phronema - Phronema in the western Church

The term itself is used occasionally by theologians. For example, John Henry Cardinal Newman, in July 1859, wrote of the nature of the consent of the faithful, which he described in part as involving "a sort of instinct, or phronema, deep in the bosom of the mystical body of Christ". [13] The broader concepts concerning union with God through Christ are referred to in a variety of ways. The progression of prayer life is typically divided into the purgative, illuminative, and unitive ways. See also:
