Hamadryad (from Greek `ama together with + dryad tree-soul)

Nearly the same as dryad, but indicating that the life of the tree elemental was bound up with that of the tree. With dryad, the mind dwells upon the fact that the physical tree is but an expression of an indwelling life or tree-soul, an elemental being expressing itself as a tree.

With hamadryad, the emphasis lies in the thought that not only is a tree the expression of a tree-soul, but that this tree-soul and the tree are essentially, and even physically, one; and that the dryad or tree-soul itself is but again the expression of a still higher monadic essence.

Ashwattha: The pipal (sacred fig) tree, the eternal tree of life whose roots are in heaven. The "world tree" in the sense of the axis of the earth and even of the cosmos.

Dryad (Greek) (from drys oak, tree)

Nymphs -- nature spirits or elementals -- pertaining especially to trees. Their life as individuals was said to be bound up with that of the tree to which it was attached and to perish when the tree perished. To modern views they were spirits in trees; to the ancients they were the tree itself considered as a living soul, viewed not only apart from but also in connection with the physical framework of the tree.

Ask (Scandianvian Norse) or Ash tree. The "tree of Knowledge". Together with the Embla (alder) the Ask was the tree from which the gods of Asgard created the first man.

Pipal:

Pipal: Tree, considered sacred both to Hindus and Buddhists. It is also known as Bodhi tree because Lord Buddha attained enlightenment under this tree. It's a very big tree which has roots, which rise from the ground and then come back to the ground and appear to be additional trunks.

Ashoka:

Ashoka: A tree bearing beautiful red flowers. Sita was held in a grove of ashoka trees by Ravana. The tree is considered sacred to Lord Shiva. Also the Champaka and Kesara trees.

"Mundane Mountain" ; the Bodhi Tree, or Ficus religiosa, is the Mundane Tree of the Buddhists; just as the Yggdrasil is the "Mundane Tree" of the Scandinavians or Norsemen.
