Travel Information

Flight information

  1. Travel to Madras/Chennai on the south-East cost of India. This is the closest major airport.
  2. If you arrive to Delhi it is 30-36 hrs to Chennai by train, from Mumbay it is a 18-22 hrs ride by train to Madras/Chennai. (We recommend first class of you travel by train in India.) If you catch a connecting local flight in one of these cities, it will take approximately 2-3 hours to reach Madras/Chennai.
  3. You can order a taxi from your home country that will be waiting for you at the airport. Make sure they know your arrival time and flight number in case of delays. The number to a fully reliable company (Kalki Cab is associated with the local organizer) that will understand were to go is: +91 2431 5222 or +91 2431 5444 or +91 2431 5555.

You can also catch a taxi to the festival on arrival to the airport in Chennai/Madras. You go 90 km straight North from Madras/Chennai. It is a 3,5 hours drive.
  4. Address to the Venue. Be sure to give very, very clear instructions of where you want to go. Remember that the Oneness Festival is a new event. The average taxi-drivers will probably not have a clue of what it is! Therefore, you will give the address to the local organizer. They are wellkown.

    The Address is:

    Sri Kalki Temple,
    Govardhanapuram Village
    Varadaiahpalem Mandal
    Chittoor District - 517 541
    ANDRA PRADESH

    Phone: +91 85762 75277 (Naveen Dasaji)
    Phone: +91 85762 75266 (Ravi Dasaji)
    Phone: +91 85762 75299

Please make sure to bring the telephone numbers with you in case of problem.

    IMPORTANT!

Kalki have another Ashram closer to Madras/Chennai. Make sure the driver is not taking you there. Tell the driver you want to go to the Kalki Ashram in the state of Andra Pradesh. Some taxi drivers are not licensed to drive in other states.

  5. When you arrive into the little village of Varadheepalyam, you go to the Ashram of Kalki and there you will find signs leading you to the festival area.
  6. PRINT this page and bring it with you!

I’ve gather some “Good-to-know” info. Basically it’s useful information and things to think about when travelling to India.

Have a pleasant trip!!!

Plain cottons or cotton/synthetic blends are the most practical and the coolest in summer. It's best to avoid synthetic fabrics that don't 'breathe'. For protection from the harsh sun a hat with a wide brim is recommended. For trekking in the nearby jungle bring a day pack that will hold a sweater, bathing clothes, camera, a water bottle. A good pair of binoculars and sunglasses that block out ultraviolet rays. Also carry strong sun block, sewing kit, mosquito repellents, high-power impact-resistant flashlight, spare batteries (unless they're a popular size Electronic Gadgets For electric-powered equipment, bring a converter and an adapter. The electrical current in India is 220 volts, 50 cycles alternating current.

Changing money

Plan to spend some time doing this, especially in smaller cities. They will give you 100 rupee notes. It will be a huge stack. First, you have to get 500 rupee notes. Ask the person who changed your money. If that fails, ask other people in the bank. You need to get 1, 2, 5 and 10 rupee notes (1,2, and 5s also come in coins). You will need these for tips and buying things on the street. If you are changing money at AmEx office, they may only give you a limited number of 10 rupee notes.
