Some scholars have claimed that the
Babylonians invented the zodiac of 360 degrees around 700 BCE, perhaps even
earlier. Many claim that India received the knowledge of the zodiac from
Babylonia or even later from Greece. However, as old as the Rig Veda, the
oldest Vedic text, there are clear references to a chakra or wheel of 360
spokes placed in the sky. The number 360 and its related numbers like 12, 24,
36, 48, 60, 72, 108, 432 and 720 occur commonly in Vedic symbolism. It is in the
hymns of the great Rishi Dirghatamas (RV I.140 - 164) that we have the clearest
such references.

| | | | | Traditional Indian Dance - The Spiritual Art of India: Healing Through MusicEvery material thing - every person, animal,
rock and tree on the earth, even Mother Earth herself - has its own natural
resonating frequency. The Earth's own electromagnetic field, deep space, and
people in a meditative state are all resonating at a frequency of approximately
7.8 hertz. This is called the Schumann Resonating Frequency. In human beings,
the balanced interaction of all the frequencies resonating in and through our
bodies is what makes us work. When our frequencies resonate in sync, we are
healthy.

| | | | | Traditional Indian Dance - The Spiritual Art of India: The Hindu Godess Mother KaliMOTHER
KALI
The
Destroyer of Demoniac Attributes
It is
unfortunate that Devi is ignorantly understood by many as a mere blood-thirsty
Hindu Goddess. No! Devi is not a vicious demoness nor is She the property of
the Hindus alone. Devi does not belong to any religion. Devi is that conscious
power of God. The words Devi, Shakti, etc., and the ideas of different forms
connected with these names are concessions granted by the sages due to the
limitations of the human intellect; they are by no means the ultimate
definitions of Shakti.
From " Hindu Fasts & Festivals " by Sri Swami
Sivananda.

| | | | Traditional Indian Dance - The Spiritual Art of India: Narayan Guru - Social Revolutionary
Religion has nothing to do with the practice of goodness, according to Sri Narayana Guru. Narayana Guru preached the recondite message of the Vedas and Upanishads in a lucid, uncomplicated style. He advocated a formless, non-dual metaphysics and would advise seekers to meditate by sitting in front of a looking-glass. According to Hindu belief, the Atman - which is evolved from the Supreme - resides in every living being. It was the latent divinity in man that the Guru wished to awaken by his exhortation.

| | | | | | | Traditional Indian Dance - The Spiritual Art of India: Music For The SoulSound leads to understanding unity and divinity. Hence
the importance given to the recitation of the sacred syllable - Om. Whatever
the music, if it is spiritually moving, it elevates the spirit and affects
positively both mind and body. While good music is highly beneficial, todays
cacophony of loud noises in the environment aggravates stress and will
eventually destroy us. Remember, sound is a powerful force Ñ it can heal; it
can also destroy.

| | | | Traditional Indian Dance - The Spiritual Art of India: Ayurveda and Herbal MedicineAyurveda and Herbal Medicine
Today, you
may think in this technologically advanced society, (as I sit by my computer
writing this, and you sit by yours reading it) there are a whole range of
patented chemical drugs tailored for all ailments, so why use herbal medicines?
Herbs are as effective for healing today as they were
in our grandmothers' day, and for thousands of years before that. We may live
in a very different world today but the human body hasn't changed, in fact it's
often struggling to cope with ifs new modern environment.

VedasVasthu
in The Vedas
Each Veda has a
subsidiary: ayurveda (knowledge of life) for rgveda, dhanurveda (knowledge of
tools and weapon) for yajurveda, gandharvaveda (knowledge of arts) for samaveda
and sthapatyaveda (architecture) for atharvaveda. In addition, puranas,
nyayasastras, mimamsas and dharma sastras (smrtis) are also considered as
upangas. Sthapatyaveda which is the subsidiary of atharvaveda is the subject of
this discussion. Because it is the subsidiary of Veda, its authority is clear
and undisputed.

| | | | Traditional Indian Dance - The Spiritual Art of India: Feng Shui and the New Children
How does the ancient science and art of feng shui relate to the New Children? Due to their sensitivities, the New Children have often been likened to canaries being sent into the coal mine. Feng shui can be used to transform the coal mine - to create more harmony and balance in our physical spaces and surroundings. Since our homes and physical surroundings are comprised of endlessly transforming and interconnected energy fields, we must develop a conscious relationship with the vast dynamics contributing to these energy fields.
