Traditional Dictionary: Craft Witchcraft Dictionary on HEREDITARY TRADITION

HEREDITARY TRADITION: when one is born into a Craft family and trained by a parent, grandparent, etc. Family loyalty was the surest way of secrecy; Y Dynion Mwyn is derived from a Hereditary Tradition. Pockets or Families of Hereditary Witches still exist in Europe and America, carrying on the family tradition.

They are usually extremely secretive, preferring to work alone or only within their family. Their form of Witchcraft is different from that known as Wicca. There are some who claim to be descendants of such families. Since Hereditary status seems to be extremely prestigious, and difficult to check, false claims do happen. Some hereditary Witches express a low opinion of Witches of the revived traditions.

Traditional Dictionary: Craft Witchcraft Dictionary on WELSH TRADITION

WELSH TRADITION:

1) Y Dynion Mwyn, the American branch of Dynion Mwyn, brought to the U.S. by Rhuddlwm Gawr in 1966. Derived from the Tribe of Dynion Mwyn in North Wales. What distinguishes the Tradition of Y Dynion Mwyn from other traditions of Witchcraft or Wicca in general, is the emphasis on a historical linage (alleged to have been passed down from Prince Llewellyn) since 1282; a focus on religious equality (either High Priest or High Priestess may initiate or lead a coven (or grove); and the passing down of handwritten copies of books of power, which include: The Owl (a Book of Shadows), and thirteen books containing magickal philosophy, myths, legends, history, and rituals. These books were named after the Original Mythological Thirteen Treasures of Ancient Britain. The tradition includes a body of lore and ritual associated with the Welsh Mabinogion and Welsh Triads.

2) The New York Welsh Tradition. This tradition was originally founded by Ed Buczynski with the help of Herman Slater. It is derived from The Celtic Tradition as taught by the late Gwen Thompson.

3) A Tradition of Witchcraft derived from the teachings of the ancient Welsh Bards and practiced by Keith Morgan of Wales.

4) A Southern Wales tradition called "Nementon", which was brought to the U.S. by the late Gwydion Penderwen, who founded the tradition in the 60's and 70's in California, and is being carried on by his initiates.

Traditional Dictionary: Social Studies Dictionary - Traditional Economy

Definition and meaning of Traditional Economy

Traditional Economy - [World Geography]

There are three types of economies: traditional (also known as subsistence), command (also known as planned) and market (commercial). In a traditional economy, goods and services are produced by a family for their personal consumption. There is little surplus and little exchange of goods. There is only a limited need for markets (places to buy and sell goods and services). This is the type of economy found in less developed nations of the world, usually in rural areas. Most less developed nations today are a mix of traditional and either market or command economies.

Traditional Dictionary: Craft Witchcraft Dictionary on GARDNERIAN TRADITION

GARDNERIAN TRADITION: a Wiccan tradition originated in the 40's and 50's by Gerald Gardner with the help of Doreen Valiente and others; This tradition is Celtic in origin, encompassing rituals as practiced in the south of England. It incorporates within its rituals and philosophy, certain ideas first published by Charles Leland (Aradia - Gospel of the Witches). It also refers to one who traces linage directly back to Gerald Gardner and one of his High Priestesses in an unbroken line. There are three known fully recognized Gardnerian lineages in the United States. In the U.S., The Long Island Line, The Kentucky Line and the Donna Cole Line are most prominent. A fourth line, the emerging California Line, is an offshoot of the Long Island Line. Gardnerians in the United States tend to be highly attentive to lineage and its traceability. Some Gardnerian Witches will not recognize the initiation of another if the initiation was through a male.

Traditional Dictionary: Pagan Denominations Dictionary on TEUTONIC TRADITION

TEUTONIC TRADITION: Paganism that worships the Norse pantheon of deities and stresses conservative values of honor, honesty, courage and duty to one’s family, kin and friends. In the 1970’s a number of Norse Pagan groups sprang into existence almost simultaneously and independently of one another, in America, England an Iceland.

Many adherents to Norse Paganism are attracted by the emphasis on blood ties and genetics, the warrior ethic and the Norse symbology. Norse Pagans recognize both branches of the Norse pantheon, the Aesir and the Vanir. A branch called Odinism worship only the Aesir. Festivals center on the seasonal equinoxes and solstices, and Norse holidays such as Ragnar’s Day. Heavier emphasis is placed on skill mastery and shamanism than on magick and meditation.

There are a few extreme right-wing Norse Pagan groups who believe they have founded a religion upon the Aryan race; and while some do include neo-Nazis, most Norse Pagans consider these people a fringe element not connected to their religion. Also known as Nordic Tradition or Norse Paganism. See also: Odinism.   (See also: TEUTONIC TRADITION, Pagan Organisations, Paganism, Pagan Dictionary, Wicca, )

In Chiropractic, the latter Palmer wrote: "We chiropractors work with the subtle substance of the soul. We release the prisoned impulses, a tiny rivulet of force, that emanates from the mind and flows over the nerves to the cells and stirs them to life. We deal with the magic power that transforms common food into living, loving, thinking clay.... "

Traditional Dictionary: Pagan Paganism Dictionary II on Tradition, Trad

Tradition or Trad:

A term used by Neopagan and other Witches to refer to the exact distinctions between each body of organized sectarian beliefs and practices, thus some groups refer to themselves as Manx Traditional Witchcraft, Scottish Trad, English Traditional, Continental, German, etc. The assumption or claim is usually that each “tradition” represents several centuries’ worth of an organized system of witchcraft, though in point of fact the overwhelming majority of trads can be easily proven to be less than thirty years old. The term, however, seems to be evolving to mean just a sect or flavor of modern Paganism, with no implied claims of antiquity.

Traditional Dictionary: Pagan Denominations Dictionary on BRITISH TRADITIONAL WITCHCRAFT

BRITISH TRADITIONAL WITCHCRAFT: Those Traditions tracing descent from a Hereditary, or Traditional, British source, including the Gardnerian and the Alexandrian Traditions and their branches and offshoots and several others derived from British sources such as Sybil Leek's Horsa Coven in the New Forest, Plant Bran, and the Clan of Tubal Cain of "Robert Cochrane".

Some Brit Traditional  Witches consider the term Wicca a synonym for British Traditional Witchcraft, while others reserve the term Wicca for the Gardnerian and Alexandrian Traditions and their offshoots and consider Wicca to be a wholly-contained subset within British Traditional Witchcraft.

Traditional Dictionary: Pagan Denominations Dictionary on FAMILY TRADITION WITCHCRAFT

FAMILY TRADITION WITCHCRAFT:  An unbroken family tradition, passed down through the generations by their ancestors from the ancient Pagan Mysteries. A Tradition passed down within the family and hence by hereditary descent.

Many Family Tradition Witches do not consider their traditions Wiccan; some others have admitted that they only began using the term Wicca to describe their family traditions because what they'd read about Gardnerian beliefs and practices fit more or less closely with their own beliefs and practices. Also known as Hereditary Witchcraft.

Traditional Dictionary: Pagan Denominations Dictionary on BRITISH TRADITIONAL WICCA

BRITISH TRADITIONAL WICCA: The groups of Wiccan Traditions who can trace their lineage to Gerald Gardner, and/or to Alex and Maxine Sanders.

Some British Traditional Wiccans practice the arts of Traditional Witchcraft from ancestors in ancient Europe, that have been preserved and passed on by the Ordo Anno Mundi, a magical order of Initiates dedicated to the training of its members in the arcane sciences of nature.

British Traditional Wiccans experience the same Mysteries, using substantially the same rituals and techniques. Variations may exist between individual Covens, Lineages and Traditions but it is the same Initiatory Mystery Path. The British Traditional groups view Wicca as an Initiatory, Oathbound, Magick-using, Pagan Mystery Priesthood celebrating the Mysteries contained in the Legend of the Descent of the Goddess and in the Charge of the Goddess.
