Harold Faltermeyer, who previously worked with both Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson on the film Flashdance and Beverly Hills Cop was sent the script of Top Gun by Bruckheimer before filming even had even started. Top Gun - Inspirations.
The primary inspiration for the film was discovered by producer Jerry Bruckheimer when he found an article in the May 1983 issue of California magazine which would form the basis of the film. The article, Top Guns, was about fighter pilots at the Miramar Naval Air Station, located near San Diego, nicknamed "Fightertown USA".

 | | | Top Gun - Film: Encyclopedia II - Tony Scott - The 1990sIn 1990, Scott returned the Simpson-Bruckheimer fold to helm the big-budget auto racing saga Days of Thunder. Once again directing Tom Cruise in a tale of a talented-but-reckless young man who must master his emotions as well as his machinery, the similarities to Top Gun did not go unnoticed. Unlike its predecessor, the film was a box-office disappointment when released in the summer of 1990.
Scott's next film, The Last Boy Scout, faired little better, its grim, downbeat tone (with notable overtones of misogyny) a ...

The first film was a realistic depiction of the OK Corral shootout and its aftermath, while the second was a fictionalization of Earp's much later relationship with silent movie cowboy star Tom Mix, featuring Bruce Willis as Mix in his second movie role. Although Willis was billed over Garner, the film actually gave more screen time and the most emphasis to Earp rather than Mix. Malcolm Mc ...
