Tiny Toon Adventures: Encyclopedia II - A Pup Named Scooby-Doo - Overview

The new format followed the trend of the "babyfication" of older cartoon characters, reducing the original Scooby-Doo Where Are You! cast to junior-high age. This new show also used the same basic formula as the original 1969 show: the gang (referred to in this show as the "Scooby-Doo Detective Agency") solved supernatural-based mysteries, where the villains were always revealed as bad guys in masks and costumes. The biggest difference was the tone of the show: A Pup Named Scooby-Doo built upon the slightly irreverent humor of ...

Tiny Toon Adventures: Encyclopedia II - Bosko - Bosko and Looney Tunes

Leon Schlesinger saw the Harman-Ising test film and signed the animators to produce cartoons at their studio for him to sell to Warner Bros.. Bosko became the star vehicle for the studio's new Looney Tunes cartoon series. Through these early Looney Tunes, Harman and Ising would turn Bosko into a near duplicate of Walt Disney's creation, Mickey Mouse, who was then the most popular character in cartoons. Bosko himself looked like Mickey, albeit with long pants and a derby hat, and he had a Minnie Mouse flapper girlfriend named Honey. Bosko even had a Pluto substitute named Bruno. He was al ...

Tiny Toon Adventures: Encyclopedia II - Steven Spielberg - The Bulk 1980-1999

Steven Spielberg - Indiana Jones. But what some would consider Spielberg's greatest film work was still to come, beginning in the 1980s. In 1981, Spielberg teamed up for the first time with his friend George Lucas to make Raiders of the Lost Ark, his homage to the cliffhanger serials of the Golden Age of Hollywood, with Harrison Ford (whom Lucas had previously cast in his Star Wars films) as the dashing hero Indiana Jones. Raiders itself spawned two sequels, also directed by Spielberg ...

Tiny Toon Adventures: Encyclopedia II - Looney Tunes - History

The two series were given two separate names because originally, Warner Bros. wanted them to be two separate cartoons series (in the same manner that Walt Disney's Silly Symphonies were separate from the Mickey Mouse series). In the beginning years, both Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies drew their storylines from Warner's vast music library. However, eventually the two series distinguished themselves by Looney Tunes becoming the umbrella for the studio's various recurring characters, while Merrie ...

Tiny Toon Adventures: Encyclopedia II - Porky Pig - Early films

The character was designed by animator Bob Clampett and introduced in the short I Haven't Got a Hat (first released on March 2, 1935), directed by Friz Freleng. Studio head Leon Schlesinger suggested that Freleng do a cartoon version of the popular Our Gang films. Porky only has a minor role in the film, but the fat little stuttering pig easily steals the show. Since Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising had left the studio in 1933, taking the studio's star character Bosko with them, Looney Tunes had been kept afloat by cartoons ...

Tiny Toon Adventures: Encyclopedia II - Plucky Duck - Baby Plucky

Among the more notable of the Plucky-centric Tiny Toons shorts featured "Baby Plucky", a look back at Plucky's diaper-clad toddler days (with rare cameos by other "Baby" Tiny Toons characters, such as Babs Bunny). Baby Plucky was characterized by a higher-pitched voice and stilted "baby-talk" diction ("Is no your turn to push the button, is my turn to push the button!"), and wore nothing except a diaper. He was also full of the wholely (or at least nearly) innocent mischief that toddlers are known for. Baby Plucky ...

Tiny Toon Adventures: Encyclopedia II - WB Television Network - History

Much like its competitor UPN, the WB was a reaction to the success of the upstart Fox Network and first-run syndicated programming during the late 1980s and early 1990s such as Baywatch, as well as the erosion in ratings suffered by independent television stations due to the growth of cable television and movie rentals. WB's first programs were sitcoms and other cheaply produced fare, mostly targeted at an ethnic audience. Even though three of the inaugural four shows were renewed beyond the first year, none of them made a significant ...

Tiny Toon Adventures: Encyclopedia II - Pinky and the Brain - The Brain

The Brain bears a resemblance to Orson Welles, particularly in his vocal characteristics (he is voiced by Maurice LaMarche in the English version and by Kenichi Ogata in the Japanese dub). He was originally based on a caricature of WB animation staffer Tom Minton, a very dry wit of the writing crew. The Welles connection comes from LaMarche, who is a big fan of the actor/director. Brain is highly intelligent and develops Rube Goldberg plans for global domination. His tail is bent like a staircase, and his head is large and wide, supposedly h ...

Tiny Toon Adventures: Encyclopedia II - Rear Window - Analysis

Hitchcock fans and film scholars have taken particular interest in way the relationship between Jeff and Lisa can be compared to the lives of the neighbors they are spying upon. Thorwald and his wife are a reversal of Jeff and Lisa (Thorwald looks after his invalid wife just as Lisa looks after the invalid Jeff). However, Thorwald's hatred of his nagging wife mirrors Jeff's arguments with Lisa. The newlywed couple initially seem perfect for each other (they spend the almost entire movie in their bedroom with the blinds ...

The stereotypical spoiled brat is a rich child. If a girl, she is always wearing a dress and sometimes has pigtails or very stylized and oversized ringlets. A more positive term for "spoiled brat" would be "spoiled princess" for a girl who doesn't show much of the negative symptoms. Another would be "d ...
