| ARTICLES RELATED TO Three-age system | | | | Three-age system: Encyclopedia II - Three-phase electric power - Single phase loadsSingle-phase loads may be connected to a three-phase system, either by connecting across two live conductors (a phase-to-phase connection), or by connecting between a phase conductor and the system neutral, which must be connected to the center of the Y (star) secondary winding of the supply transformer. Single-phase loads should be distributed evenly between the phases of the three-phase system f ...

| | | | Three-age system: Encyclopedia II - Three-phase electric power - Phase convertersOccasionally the advantages of three-phase motors make it worthwhile to convert single-phase power to three phase. Small customers, such as residential or farm properties may not have access to a three-phase supply, or may not want to pay for the extra cost of a three-phase service, but may still wish to use three-phase equipment. Such converters may also allow the frequency to be varied allowing speed control. Some locomotives are moving to multi-phase motors driven by such systems even though the incoming supply ...

| | | | Three-age system: Encyclopedia II - Three-phase electric power - Color CodesConductors of a three phase system are usually identified by a color code, to allow for balanced loading and to assure the correct phase rotation for induction motors. Colors used may adhere to old standards or to no standard at all, and may vary even within a single installation. However, the current National Electrical Code (2005) does not require any color identification of conductors other than that of the neutral (white or white with a color stripe) the ground (green or green with a yellow stripe) or in the case of a High Leg Delta system, the High Leg must be identified orange.

| | | | Three-age system: Encyclopedia II - Three-phase electric power - Generation and distributionAt the power station, an electrical generator converts mechanical power into a set of alternating electric currents, one from each electromagnetic coil or winding of the generator. The currents are sinusoidal functions of time, all at the same frequency but with different phases. In a three-phase system the phases are spaced equally, giving a phase separation of 120°. The frequency is typically 50 Hz in Europe and 60 Hz in the US ...

| | | | Three-age system: Encyclopedia II - Peripheral nervous system - Naming of specific nervesThe 12 cranial nerves originate from the brainstem, and mainly control the functions of the anatomic structures of the head with some exceptions. CN X receives visceral sensory information from the thorax and abdomen, and CN XI is responsible for innervating the sternocleidomastoid, or musculus sternocleidomastoideus and trapezius muscle, or the musculus trapezius, neither of which are exclusively in the head.
Spinal nerves take their origins from the spinal cord. They control the functions of the rest of the body. In humans, there ar ...

| | | | Three-age system: Encyclopedia II - Interstate Highway System - StandardsThe American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) has defined a set of standards that all new Interstates must meet unless a waiver from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is obtained. These standards have become stricter over the years. One almost absolute standard is the controlled access nature of the roads. Except for a few exceptions, traffic lights (and cross traffic in general) are limited to toll booths and ramp meters (met ...

The rest of the costs come out of the federal budget. In the eastern United States, large sections of some Interstate Highways planned or built prior to 1956 are operated as toll roads. The taxes dedicated to the construction and maintenance of highways are often criticized as a direct subsidy from the government to promote and ...
