Following Sounds magazine in the UK declaring it "Single of this and every week", the band was signed to a three-album contract with EMI. Later the same year they recorded their first LP, released in February 1977, also called (I'm) Stranded.
In mid-1977 the band moved to the UK, where it became apparent that they and their label had different ideas as to how they should be marketed. EMI plann ...

 | | | The Saints: Encyclopedia II - The Damned - Mid-1970s early punk phaseThe Damned played their first gig on 6 July 1976, supporting the Sex Pistols at the 100 Club in London. They were the first of the London punk bands to release a single on the independent record label Stiff Records.

[1] It is a cheaply-recorded, but catchy and well-crafted pop song, 'punk' mostly in its volume and breakneck delivery. Vanian's deadpan intro — "Is she ...

 | | | The Saints: Encyclopedia II - Music of Australia - Rock and popular musicMain article: Australian rock
Australia has produced a wide variety of popular and rock music. While many musicians and bands (some notable examples include the 1960s successes of The Easybeats and the folk-pop group The Seekers, through the heavy rock of AC/DC, and the slick pop of INXS and more recently Savage Garden) have had considerable international success, there remains some debate over whether Australian popular music really has a distinctive sound. Perhaps the most striking common feature of Australian music, like many other Australian art forms, is ...

 | | | The Saints: Encyclopedia II - Australian rock - 1970-1975: Third WaveAfter a period of flux in the late 60s, during which almost all of the dominant 60s acts dissolved or faded from view, Australian rock moved into the so-called "The Third Wave" (1970-1975), a fertile period in which newer performers and veterans of the 60s Beat Boom coalesced into new formations and developed a more mature, progressive and distinctively Australian rock style. Some of these acts were successful within Australia, but few managed to achieve any lasting local or overseas success, due to the combination of poor management, lack of record company support and lack of radio exposure.

 | | | The Saints: Encyclopedia II - Hard-Ons - Biography
Hard-Ons - 1980s: Early days.
The Hard-Ons' origins can be traced to Western Sydney's Punchbowl Boys High School, where all three band members were students. The multicultural trio of drummer/vocalist Keish De Silva (of Sri Lankan descent), guitar/vocals Blackie (Yugoslavian heritage) and bassist Ray Ahn (Korean ancestry) were initially too young to play gigs in pubs, but honed their skills playing at parties and school dances. After all turning 18 years old, the band made its first 'proper' live debut in June 19 ...

 | | | The Saints: Encyclopedia II - Australian rock - The late 1970sThe advent Double Jay and Countdown fundamentally changed the political economy of Australian popular music, and the pub circuit gave rise to a newer generation of tough, uncompromising, adult-oriented rock bands.
