Rabbi Kaplan was born in the Bronx, New York City, and studied in the Torah Voda'as and Mir Yeshivot in Brooklyn. Perhaps the first Orthodox translation into modern English was The Living Torah by Aryeh Kaplan (New York: Moznaim Publishing, 1981 [2nd edition]).
