The modern Santa Claus is thought to be a composite character made up from the merging of quite separate figures. Santa Claus - Ancient Christian origins. The first of these is Saint Nicholas of Myra, a 4th century AD Christian bishop of Myra in Lycia, a province of Byzantine Anatolia, now in Turkey. Nicholas was famous for his generous gifts to the poor, in particular presenting the three impoverished daughters of a pious Christian with dowries so that they would not have to become prostitutes. Not many schools of Tech's relatively small size (around 16,000) and high academic standing (top 5 among engineering schools, top 10 among public schools, top 40 among all schools) do as well or better in the "big three" traditional American sports. Eliminating schools which are not state-supported, there are only a handful. The school's sports teams are variously called the Yellowjackets, the Ramblin' Wreck, and the Engineers, but the official nickname is Yellow Jackets. They participate in NCAA Division I ...

The Coca-Cola Company: Encyclopedia II - OK Soda - Marketing

OK Soda has been remembered more for its unique advertising campaign than for its fruity flavor. The name and advertising campaign attempted to poke fun at the "I'm OK, You're OK" pop-psychology of the early-90s. OK Soda was intentionally marketed at the difficult Generation X and Generation Y markets, and attempted to cash in on the group's existing disillusionment and disaffection with standard advertising campaigns; the concept was that the youth market was already aware that they were being manipulated by mass-media marketing, so this ad ...

Jones Soda is known for its unusual flavors. It rotates flavors frequently, providing an ever-rotating collection of tastes. The air blanketing the fermenting beer — called variously 'fixed air' and 'mephitic air' — was known to kill mice suspended in it. Priestley found water thus treated ...
