Sympathy: Encyclopedia - Sympathy

Sympathy comes from the Latin sympatha, from Greek sumpatheia, from sumpaths, affected by like feelings  : sun-, syn- + pathos, emotion. Thus the essence of sympathy is that a person's feelings reflect or are like those of another. Sympathy exists when the feelings or emotions of one person give rise to similar feelings in another person, creating a state of shared feeling. In common usage, sympathy is usually the sharing of unhappiness or suffering, but it can also refer to sharing other (positive) emotions as well. In a broader sense, it can refer to the sharing of political or ideological sentiments, su ...

Sympathy: Encyclopedia II - Sympathy for the Devil - The song
The song, credited to Jagger/Richards, is sung with vehemence and swagger by Mick Jagger as a first-person narrative and commentary from the point of view of a suave and sophisticated Lucifer. It is often claimed that the lyrics were inspired by The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov. At the beginning of Bulgakov's novel, an elegant stranger, later revealed to be Satan, says: "'Please excuse me,' he said, speaking correctly, but with a foreign accent, 'for presumin ...

Sympathy: Encyclopedia II - Sympathy for the Devil - References to the song

The song was used as the theme music to one of director Michael Mann's earliest works, the 1979 made-for-television film The Jericho Mile, written by Patrick J. Nolan and starring Peter Strauss. In Hal Ashby's Coming Home (1978), Robert Carradine commits suicide under the increasingly overpowering "Sympathy for the Devil." In the Stephen King book Dreamcatcher, a military unit's theme song is "Sympathy for the Devil". Sympathy: Forgiveness Is A Virtue

Jains feel that the values like love, joy and peace can be achieved only through caring for others, understanding the pain of others and reaching out to other human beings. Anger, confusion, egoism and intolerance cause harm to one's self and to the 'other'. But the negative energies suffocate, choke, distress and disturb. Love should not be in the form of words alone. It should reach out to people who need peace, mercy, joy, comfort, sympathy, food, clothing and medicines. This is love in its active, not passive manifestation, but true love is forgiveness for self sake.

Sympathy: Situation Vacant - Saviour Wanted

India needs rejuvenation. This rejuvenation will come only with the revival of our great Indian ideals. India needs shakti. For this, extensive re-building needs to be initiated for the country to acquire physical, mental and spiritual strength.

For creating this stupendous energy, India needs a new spiritual awakening. A new direction. The inspiration for such an awakening could come from a prophet of peace, for instance, someone like Guru Nanak, who proclaimed: "Love the saints of every faith, Put away the pride! The essence of religion is Humility, service, and sympathy.  Not fine clothes, Not the yogi'sgarb and ashes, Not the blowing of horn, Not the shaven head, Not long prayers...".

Sympathy: Way of Peace: Love As Antidote to War

More than 50 years ago, Mahatma Gandhi offered a startling truth: "There is no way to peace. Peace is the way." To a country bogged down in the morass of war, this could be a beacon of hope.

Gandhi went further to show that the way of peace ends suffering and oppression, not by warring against an enemy but by bearing witness to wrongs and allowing sympathy and common humanity to do their patient work. Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa lived different aspects of peace, which was proven to be a viable way to achieve great things.

Sympathy: Encyclopedia - Unconscious communication

Unconscious communication (or intuitive) is the transfer of information unconsciously between humans. It is sometimes intrapersonal, like dreaming or cognition under the effects of hypnosis, and is not necessarily nonverbal communication. Research has shown that our conscious attention can attend to 5-9 items simultaneously. All other information is processed by the unconscious mind. Usually our unconscious communication and unconscious behaviour are influenced or dictated by our culture. Communication b ...

Sympathy: Encyclopedia - Christianity in Korea

Over the past few decades, the world has witnessed the dramatic growth of the Christian faith in South Korea. Almost a third of the population professed to be Christian in the year 2000, and Seoul, the capital, contained eleven of the world's twelve largest Christian congregations. The impact of Christianity on the Korean culture has been considerable, and is partly responsible for a steady decline in the membership and influence of Buddhism, Shamanism and Confucianism, which have traditionally had deep roots in Korean culture. Antipathy is dislike for something or somebody, the opposite of sympathy. Ary Scheffer (February 10, 1795 - June 15, 1858), French painter of Dutch extraction, was born at Dordrecht. After the early death of his father, a poor painter, Ary was taken to Paris and placed in the studio of Guérin by his mother, a woman of great energy and character. In Roman mythology, Caca was the sister of the fire-breathing giant Cacus. She was originally a goddess of the hearth, but was later demoted to a minor part in one version of Hercules' Twelve Labors. She, out of sympathy, told Hercules where the cattle of Geryon were after her brother stole them, and hid them in his cave. Hercules then killed Cacus. Sympathy: Encyclopedia - William Byrd

William Byrd (1540? – July 4, 1623) was one of the most celebrated English composers in the Renaissance. His entire life was marked by contradictions, and as a true Renaissance man he cannot be easily categorised. He lived until well into the seventeenth century without writing music in the new Baroque fashion, but his superbly constructed keyboard works marked the beginning of the Baroque organ and harpsichord style. Byrd's life is interesting because of his Roman Catholic sympathies combined with his work in the court of the Angli ...
