symbolise: Encyclopedia II - Hong Kong Baptist University - Emblem and logo

The Hong Kong Baptist University emblem consists of three pictorial elements: the Bible, waves and knots. The Bible symbolises the unique quality of Christian education which include moral and spiritual training in addition to academics. The waves on the other hand, symbolise both Hong Kong's geographic nature as an island, echoing Confucius' dictum that "the wise love water" and the University's continuing effort to improve its educational quality. Knots, the final symbol, illustrate that within God's embrace, Christians are harmoniously linked.See also:

Angkor Wat is a unique combination of the temple mountain, the standard design for the empire's state temples, and the later plan of concentric galleries. The temple is a representation of Mount Meru, the home of the gods: the central quincunx of towers symbolises the five peaks of the mountain, and the walls and moat the surrounding mountain ranges and ocean.[16] Access to the upper areas of the temple was progressively more exclusive, with the laity being admitted only to the lowest level.See also:

symbolise: Encyclopedia II - Naji al-Ali - Handala

Handala is the most famous of Naji al-Ali's characters. He is depicted as a ten-year old boy, and appeared for the first time in Al-Siyasa in Kuwait in 1969. The figure turned his back to the viewer from the year 1973, and clasped his hands behind his back. Handala wears ragged clothes and is barefoot, symbolising his allegiance to the poor. In later cartoons, he sometimes appea ...

symbolise: Encyclopedia II - Coronation - In Antiquity

The shahs of the Achaemenid Persian empire were crowned with the diadem by a high priest of the Zoroasterian religion. The Roman Emperors, traditionally acclaimed either by the senate or by a legion speaking for the armies as a whole, were confirmed by the other body, without a coronation. The Eastern diadem was introduced by Diocletian. In theory the Imperial crown should be imposed by a representative of those who conferred the sovereign authority that it symbolised. And in the 4th century the Prefect Sallustius Secundus crowned Val ...

symbolise: Encyclopedia II - Camel cigarette - Package

The camel in the logo is of the dromedary variety. In other languages than English, a distinction is made between camels and dromedaries, so the name and image don't coincide. The package artwork was used by rock band Camel for their second album Mirage (including the package sides to make for a square image). ...
