Sunnah: Encyclopedia II - Sunnah - Legality of Sunnah
The Sunnah, therefore, is the second source of Islamic law after the Qur'an, and is incorporated in many books of hadith. The prophetic example of Sunnah is considered to be obligatory by most Muslims. A few Quran Alone Muslims follow only the Quran and reject all sunnah and hadith as sources for Divine Guidance or religious law. Many advocates of liberal movements within Islam claim that prophetic sunnah should be followed in matters of ritual and worship, but ...

Sunnah: Encyclopedia II - Sunnah - Sunnah and Hadith

The Sunnah is the way or deeds of Muhammad in Sunni Islam, and the way or deeds of Muhammad and the twelve Imams in Shi'a Islam, while Hadith is a collection of the narrations and approvals. The two words are interchangeable when referring to the Traditions, but actually there is a difference between the two. Hadiths are classified according their status, in relation to their texts (matn) and their chain of transmitters (isnad). Scholars of Hadiths have studied the Sunnah from their context (matn) as well as from their transmitters (isnad) i ...

In Islam, one can pray for God to curse someone. This is done with the arabic word "La'nat". "La'nat" means deprivation, and can be used in expresions such as "La'anatullah", "May (he/she/it) be deprived of Gods (blessings)". So, the curse is not to be understood as gaining evil, rather of losing the blessings of God. Curses in Islam - Quran & Sunnah. Sunnah: Encyclopedia - Islamic fundamentalism

Islamic fundamentalism is primarily used in the Western world to describe Islamist groups. However, usage of the term is often expanded to include all of the following aspects of Islam and the modern Islamic world: It describes the beliefs of traditional Muslims; that they should restrict themselves to literal and traditional interpretations of their sacred texts, the Qur'an and Hadith (since they view these as "fundamental" to Islam). By extension, fundamentalism may include a variety of religious movements and groups in ...

Sunnah: Encyclopedia II - Married life in the Qur'an and the Sunnah - Introduction

In some cultures, the basis of a marriage is widely believed to be love. Although love is important within Islamic marriage, it is not the basis of marriage. For a man, marriage is a duty: He is expected to marry as soon as he can financially support a family. During the marriages, love is not his first priority, The love in a marriage is expected to come as a result of correctly worshiping God. When a problem with the marriage arises, the first step is not to try to reignite the love, rather it is to verify that the Islamic ways are ...

Sunni deem it as Sahih. al-Shafi'i said in Al-Risalah, Eng. trans., p. 111: "I have heard the most knowledgeable people about the Qur'an say that the Wisdom is the Sunnah" Sunnis also say that the meaning of the hadith is contained in the Qur'an, in the mention of the Book and Wisdom (2:129, 2:151, 2:231, 3:164, 4:113, 33:34 & 62:2); ...

Sunnah: Encyclopedia II - Hadith of Qur'an and Sunnah - Shi'a view

Shi'a marvel that Sunnis deem this Ahahd hadith as sahih, while at the same time claiming that the mutawatir Hadith of the two weighty things is also Sahih, even though they are supposed to be said at the same occasion. At the same time, Shi'a do agree with the meaning of the hadith, even if they deem it a fabrication. They mean that this version does not mention which channel to use to access the Sunnah, something that the Hadith of the two weighty things makes unambiguosly clear. Also, Shi'a observe that Sunnis prefer to use an Ahahd narration, rather than a Mutawatir narratio ...
