Suffering - Buddhism. In Buddhism, the central problem is identified as dukkha, a term in Pali and Sanskrit which can be translated as suffering or unsatisfactoriness; because this term is often misinterpreted in translation, it should be noted that dukkha specifically also includes an "underlying angst" and not only a more active conception of pain or suffering (see Viparinama-dukkha and Sankhara-dukkha, under dukkha); these latter forms are brought about due to the inherent changing nature of all phenomena (nam ...

Suffering: Redemptive Power of Suffering

Many questions arise concerning the role of suffering. These questions include: How is there suffering in a world created by a good God who cares for and loves His creation? For the Christian the quintessential question is why does God’s plan include the suffering and death of His own Son? Paul sees the death of Christ not only as a propitiatory or vicarious sacrifice, but as a colossal cosmic occurrence.

Suffering: Suffer the Suffering

Hindu Quotes: Suffer the Suffering

Worthless are those who injure others vengefully,

While those who stoically endure are like stored gold.

The gratification of the vengeful lasts only for a day,

But the glory of the forbearing lasts until the end of time.

Though unjustly aggrieved, it is best to suffer the suffering

 And refrain from unrighteous retaliation.

- Tirukkural 16: 155-157

Suffering: Suffering Is Temporary

Buddhist Quotes: Suffering Is Temporary

All the faults of our mind – our selfishness, ignorance, anger, attachment, guilt, and other disturbing thoughts – are temporary, not permanent and everlasting. And since the cause of our suffering – our disturbing thoughts and obscurations – is temporary, our suffering is also temporary.

Suffering: Understanding Suffering

Suffering seems to be one of those fundamental human experiences that we all have in common, and is perhaps the one we would all gladly give up. We often feel oppressed and frustrated by suffering because we do not understand it. It can pierce the heart of our being and our identity, and shake every assumption we hold about ourselves and the world. It often seems to destroy our will-power and overthrow our commitments, to our dismay.

Suffering: On Lessons, Creating our Reality, Limitation, and Eternal Suffering

We are here to learn. We have created all our experiences for that purpose only: to learn, understand, and recognize ourselves in all that is. This is our sole/soul purpose in this entire existence. To learn a lesson never requires eternity; it is only our own unconscious choice to resist and avoid the learning that perpetuates the lesson.

Suffering: Encyclopedia - Nephritis

Nephritis is inflammation of the kidney. The word comes from the Greek nephro- meaning "of the kidney" and -itis meaning "inflammation". The two most common causes of nephritis are infection or an auto-immune process. Nephritis has the effect of damaging and closing up the microscopic filters in the kidney.
