| ARTICLES RELATED TO Stahlhelm | | | | Stahlhelm: Encyclopedia II - Darth Vader - Lightsaber trainingAnakin Skywalker was trained by the Order's most promising Jedi Knight, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Through Kenobi, Anakin would inherit a rich tradition of lightsaber pedigree. From Master Yoda, Master Dooku, Master Qui-Gon Jinn, and Obi-Wan; Anakin's style featured elements of all the masters that made him outstandingly talented at a very young age.
Mostly trained in Form IV Ataru just like his master, Anakin found himself the test-bed for Kenobi's new-found belief that Form III Soresu was the best philosophy. Though Anakin took to Ataru well a ...

| | | | Stahlhelm: Encyclopedia II - Darth Vader - Possible interpretations of the Jedi prophecyThe Jedi Prophecy is a frequent source of debate among fans. In particular, Anakin's status as the Chosen One is regularly disputed, possibly due in large part to how he is overshadowed by Palpatine, whose political machinations successfully bring about the new ascendance of the Sith. Anakin's role in this scheme is an ancillary one, and much of the plan is already underway long before Anakin's fall-- indeed, it began with the invasion of Naboo and continued through the Clone Wars and included the execution of Order 66, which was carried out ...

| | | | Stahlhelm: Encyclopedia II - Trench warfare - MiningAll sides would engage in vigorous mining and counter-mining duels. The dry chalk of the Somme was especially suited to mining, but with the aid of pumps, it was also possible to mine in the sodden clay of Flanders. Specialist tunnelling companies, usually made up of men who had been coal miners in civilian life, would dig tunnels under no man's land and beneath the enemy's trenches. These mines would then be packed with explosives and detonated, producing a large crater. The crater served two purposes: it could destroy or breach the enemy's ...

| | | | Stahlhelm: Encyclopedia II - Trench warfare - DevelopmentThe first development which was critical for trench warfare was the introduction of mass-conscripted armies during the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars. Prior to this, armies still consisted of small numbers of troops which were unable to defend a large territory for very long—battles were either brief or degenerated into siege warfare. Large armies made it much more difficult for one army to outflank another, but it was still possible with cavalry and infantry charges for one army to break another by a direct assault. An example ...

| | | | Stahlhelm: Encyclopedia II - Trench warfare - BackgroundFortification is almost as old as warfare itself; however, because of the relatively small size of the armies and the lack of range of the weapons, it was traditionally not possible to defend more than a short defensive line or an isolated strongpoint. The very long fortifications of the ancient world, such as the Great Wall of China or Hadrian's Wall, were exceptions to the general rule and were in any case not designed to completely prevent enemy crossing the border, but to act as a deterence to casual border infringement, as well as to ac ...

| | | | Stahlhelm: Encyclopedia II - Trench warfare - Life in the trenchesAn individual soldier's time in the front-line trench was usually brief; from as little as one day to as much as two weeks at a time before being relieved. The Australian 31st Battalion once spent 53 days in the line at Villers Bretonneux, but such a duration was a rare exception. A typical British soldier's year could be divided as follows:
15% front line
10% support line
30% reserve line
20% rest
25% other (hosp ...

| | | | Stahlhelm: Encyclopedia II - Trench warfare - Death in the trenchesThe intensity of World War I trench warfare meant that about 10% of the fighting soldiers were killed. This compared to 5% killed during the Boer War and 4.5% killed during World War II. For British and Dominion troops serving on the Western Front, the proportion of killed was 12% while the total proportion of troops who became casualties (killed or wounded) was 56%. Considering that for every front-line infantryman there were about 3 soldiers in support (artillery, supply, medical, etc.), it was highly unlikely for a fighting soldier to survive the war without sustaining some form of injury. Indeed many soldiers were in ...

| | | | Stahlhelm: Encyclopedia II - Trench warfare - Weapons of trench warfare
Trench warfare - Infantry weapons.
The common infantry soldier had four weapons at his disposal in the trenches: the rifle, bayonet, shotgun and grenade.
The standard British rifle was the .303-in. (7.7mm) Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE), originally developed as a cavalry carbine, with a maximum range (for sniping) of 1400yd (1280m), though its effective range was more like 200yd (180m). British infantry training emphasised rapid rifle fire rather than accuracy. Early in the war, the British were able to ...

| | | | Stahlhelm: Encyclopedia II - Darth Vader - TalentsDarth Vader is a brilliant strategist and one of the greatest pilots in the galaxy. Vader still possesses his former persona's amazing engineering skills, having overseen the design of the TIE/Advanced fighter and the construction of the second Death Star. His talent with the lightsaber is legendary. All of these skills, however, are secondary to his incredible mastery of the Force. He was born with the highest known midichlorian count (a measure of Force-aptitude) in the history of the galaxy, surpassing that of both Yoda and the Emperor. H ...

In April 1945, he fled westward disguised as a member of the regular German infantry. He was captured as a POW and held near Nuremberg. He was released by the Allies, who had no idea that he was in their midst. After hiding as a farm labourer in Upper Bavaria, Mengele departed for Argentina in 1949, where many other fleeing Nazi officials had also sought refuge. Mengele divorced his wife Irene, and in 1958 married his brother Karl's widow, Martha. She and her son moved to Argentina to join Mengele for a time, although ...

It was deployed in January U.C. 0078 and was the Zeon's main mobile suit at the outbreak of the One Year War. The C-Type, and later Zaku and non-Zaku mobile suits, typically used a 120mm drum-fed machine gun or a 280mm bazooka. Later, a 90mm machine gun became a common weapon among Zeon mobile suits.
Several pilots became famous for their actions inside the cockpit of the MS-06C Zaku II. In the Battle of Loum, Lieutenant Jr. Grade ...

| | | | Stahlhelm: Encyclopedia II - Darth Vader - Behind the scenesThe character of Darth Vader was not originally planned to be a suited cyborg. The current image of Vader was created when concept artist Ralph McQuarrie drew the opening scene where the Rebel ship Tantive IV was being boarded. It was initially imagined that Darth Vader would fly through space to enter the ship, necessitating a suit and breathing mask. This was later made permanent and incorporated in the story. Vader's head gear resembles a Japanese kabuto (兜), which is consistent with the samurai-like order of the Jedi and ...
