Spirituality and Science | Wisdom Archive on Science and Spirituality | | Science and Spirituality Spirituality and Science is seen by many as two separate things.
What we normally call Science is that which we can measure, see and prove. From that perspective, Spirit is maybe the last thing to find in any microscope. The science of Spirituality is maybe not so easily measured from the parameters used in normal science.
The marriage of science and spirituality is very exiting and this topic will be presented at this page and at the Oneness Festival.
In many religious traditions God is seen as infinite, all powerful, perfect and beyond change and growth. In stark contrast the universe is evolving an ever expanding consciousness often through excruciatingly painful struggles. Our mathematical and scientific understanding suggests God is an unfolding creative process that may expand without limit. In that framework we are the eyes of God with the power to create the world. We are the evolution of consciousness becoming aware of itself and beginning to acquire the power to take conscious control of evolution.

Both science and spirituality need to work together to understand total reality. In the Gita, Krishna says: ''It is the knowledge of matter with its evolutes and the spirit which I consider as wisdom’’ (13.2). Bertrand Russell wrote: ''Unless man increases in wisdom as much as in knowledge, increase of knowledge will only be increase of sorrow.’’ Science is limited to the outer, physical world of objects. 'Veda’ deals with knowledge of both the outer (physical) and inner (psycho-spiritual) worlds. Vedas have a larger connotation as they stand for eternal truths.

| | | | | Spirituality and Science: Infinite Power of The SubconsciousOur bodies create the illusion that we are separate.
This illusion is further reinforced by modern science and technology, which is
based on the Cartesian-Newton paradigm, which posited a division between mind
and matter and led to a view of the universe as a mechanical system consisting
of separate objects.
This view fostered life in society as a competitive
struggle for existence and the belief in unlimited material progress to be
achieved through economic and technological growth. Modern physics and quantum
mechanics are now discovering what the mystics of the East have long known Ñ
the basic oneness of the universe.

to Arrive at the TruthSpirituality and Science: Two Ways
to Arrive at the Truth
Some of the greatest scientists have
attributed their sparks of genius to spiritual inspiration. "I assert
that cosmic religious experience is the strongest and the noblest driving force
behind scientific research," said Albert Einstein.
Scientists today are striving to
discover how creation came into being, and how human beings came to be. A
state-of-the-art space telescope has been able to detect some of the earliest
moments of the Big Bang. By picking up signals from several light years away,
we are able to glimpse at the early universe, whose light is only now reaching
us, billions of years later. Will we ever be able to discover the secret of
creation?

Mantra
meditation is often called " Mantra Yoga", considered to be a part of
"Nada Yoga", which means the "yoga of sound". The great
rishis, seers or saints of ancient India passed down these sacred sound
vibrations for the benefit of all life but especially for human society for
only in the human form of life can one obtain spiritual realisation. These
sacred sound vibrations are known to promote healing on all levels, whilst, at
the same time, awakening the chakras within our ethereal, or subtle, bodies.

On being asked as to why so many
foreigners are coming to India, when advanced medicines are available with
doctors of modern medicine all over the world, Dr. Rai added, "The
doctors abroad don't have a treatment for the psyche of human being, except
giving tranquillizers, sedatives and anti-depressant drugs. These are not only
harmful, but also habit-forming. In view of this, Sahaj yoga, which can control
the psyche of human being by meditation, has become very popular to the
treatment and prevention of psychosomatic diseases like bronchial asthma,
migraine, irritable bowel syndrome, infertility, multiple scierosis and
spondylitis, to name a few. It is all due to the blessings of Shree Mataji
Nirmala Devi, who founded Sahaj Yoga centre, and has enlightened thousands of
people all over the world."

World in a Grain of Salt
Revelation of this excellence in
God's creation has been the constant endeavour of science right from the days
of Aristotle, Newton and Einstein to the present day.
Realising God's excellence in nature
only brought these scientists closer to God - some of them even expressed a
feeling of deep religiosity. Einstein said: "Science without religion is
lame; religion without science is blind".

Attain Mukti
"I bow to that glorious Lord of the Jainas, who
as the shining lamp of the know-ledge of numbers made to shine whole of the
universe", said Mahaviracharya in Ganita Sara Sangraha. Few know
that ancient Jain scientific thought is a rich source of Indian scientific
heritage. The grand Jain spiritual tradition and its masters broadly influenced
Indian thought and rationality in three key areas: Atomism, non-absolutism
and mathematical concepts including the theory of numbers. As realists, a
satisfactory explanation for the origin of the material world was
important to Jain philosophers.

Yoga: Research
on the effect of vibrations on water
With the spreading of Sahaja Yoga, it became well known that water
can be vibrated by Shri Mataji, directly by her personal impact or in the
presence of her photograph. Many people experienced medicinal properties of
such water. Vibrated water doesn't get spoiled when stored for a very long
time, like several months. For estimating the quality of the water we used
standard, worldwide accepted, sanitary chemical characteristics, which
indirectly characterize the degree of water contamination.

| | | | Spirituality and Science: Small-Scale Models Of RealityIf we are what our thoughts make of us, the question
arises: How is thought created? The Dhammapada states: - All that we are is the
result of what we have thoughtÓ. Then what is it in our minds that controls our
thoughts and thereby alters the entire course of our lives for better or worse?
Recent psychological research offers an answer.
Psychologist Kenneth Craik, in The Nature of
Explanation says that our minds construct small-scale models of reality. Models
are representations of a new, unfamiliar object by a similar, but more familiar
object. Based on those models we reason, explain things and anticipate events.

| | | | Spirituality and Science: The Conscious Universe, part I - Introduction “The reality of psychic phenomena is now no longer based solely upon faith, or wishful thinking, or absorbing anecdotes. It is not even based upon the results of a few scientific experiments. Instead, we know that these phenomena exist because of new ways of evaluating massive amounts of scientific evidence collected over a century by scores of researchers.”
This is part 1 of the first chapter from Dean Radins book The Conscious Universe
“Radin makes the most powerful case for the reality of parapsychological phenomena that I have yet encountered. He shows how recent research gives overwhelming evidence for the existence of forms of influence and communication at present unexplained. He writes clearly, powerfully and persuasively, and this book shows that we are at a turning point in our scientific understanding of our minds and of nature.”

Yantra?Sacred Geometry: YANTRAS - What is a Yantra?
All ancient
cultures had sacred geometric designs representative of their Gods, which had a
mantra (or sacred sound vibration) that corresponded to it. The Indians,
Egyptians, Jews, Chinese, and Mayans all had systems of "planetary
yantras" used to combat malefic influences. Yantra is the ultimate
"symbology". In the Vedic culture we find much power and energy said
to be held within sacred geometric symbols. They are to be found throughout
sacred scriptures, carved in stone, hidden within paintings and in temples.
