The Subtle Bodies: The Yogic Anatomy of Human Potentialities

Through exceedingly detailed meditations over thousands of hours, the yogis determined that the human body is far more than a configuration of fleshy organs, bones, and fluids. Composed of five gradients or koshas, literally, "sheaths," with each one more interior and more subtle than the previous one, we are the actual "bridge" from the physical to the spiritual. Each sheath exerts a guiding intelligence over the next more dense sheath in the following order: the individual soul and causal body (jiva and anandamaya kosha), the reflective-intellectual body (vijnanamaya kosha), mental-emotional body (manomaya kosha), vital energy body (pranamaya kosha),and the physical body (annamaya kosha). Through this anatomy of increasingly interior bodies, yoga maps the emotionality and sentient capacities of the intimus itself and thus the way toward deepening our intimacy with one another and the world.

Surrounding the second and the third chakra is the Void which stands for the principle of mastery (guru principle) within us. In many spiritual traditions, this area is the "ocean of illusions" that needs to be crossed with the help of a spiritual guide. When the Kundalini is awakened and passes through the Void, this principle of mastery is established within us.

Breaking Past Life Vows and Pacts

Many of us have had past lives in monastic environments, religious orders, secret sects and so on. Some of us will have made strong vows in the name of God with much emotion and determination, believing that they were right, and perhaps they were for us at that time. A vow made with strong intent carries over into other lifetimes unless a time limit is specified, which is usually not the case. We may have made vows of chastity, celibacy, poverty, silence, suffering, cleanliness, purity, everlasting love or of vengeance against someone who hurt or tricked us. All these prior vows are limitations that can constrict our souls and restrict our freedom.

Developing Psychic Abilities

How does one determine if he has psychic abilities and what they may be? It's not easy! There are "gurus" under every rock, and it seems at times there are as many psychics as there are real estate agents. They offer all sorts of courses, seminars, workshops, tapes, etc., in "self-discovery" and psychic development. It can become very confusing and, if caution and good common sense are not liberally employed, a bit risky. I suggest that you follow your "gut feeling" in every case.

 Spirits can be intoxicating, exhilarating, mystifying, prankish or terrifying. The term "spirit" means different things to different people at different times. So what is "spirit?" When I use the term "spirit" here, I refer strictly to ghosts and the spirit world, to the life beyond death.

A different approach is called for if you're trying to record ghosts as opposed to spirits. Here, a ghost would be some kind of paranormal activity that is obvious and external to the observer. If you live in a house where strange things are always happening, or you know of a local house or area that is reputed to be haunted, you might take your tape recorder, camera or camcorder and set it up when you expect strange things to occur.

Spirit Guides

Everyone on the planet has spirit guides we can call upon for assistance when we are in need of help. Although we may know that help is available, it is sometimes difficult to access it. Some of our guides are connected to past life experiences; they may be people we knew before. Others are guides who have been trained to help us eliminate a specific problem in our present lives, such as a health issue. No matter what category they fall into, guides' intentions are to comfort, inform and nourish us.

Electronic Voice Phenomena

Juergenson was a film producer in Sweden who, in 1959 while making a documentary, had decided to tape bird songs. As he began recording, little did he realize that what was to follow would change the course of not only his earthly life but of that he would lead in the world beyond after his death. When he played the tape back he was startled to hear, in among the tweeting and chirping, his mother's voice say in German, "Friedrich, you are being watched. Friedel, my little Friedel, can you hear me?"

 Soul loss is a spiritual illness that causes emotional and physical disease. We all spend a tremendous amount of psychic energy looking for lost parts of ourselves. We do this unconsciously, and we do this in many ways: generating dreams and daydreams, experimenting with numerous spiritual paths and creating relationships that mirror back to us our missing parts, to name but a few.
