Hinduism Dictionary on Sound
sound: Shabda. As the darshana, or "seeing," of the Divine is a central article of faith for Hindus, similarly, hearing the Divine is spiritually indispensable. The ears are a center of many nadis connected to inner organs of perception. Gurus may when imparting initiation whisper in the ear of disciples to stimulate these centers and give a greater effect to their instructions. During temple puja, bells ring loudly, drums resound, conches and woodwinds blare to awaken worshipers from routine states of consciousness. Meditation on inner sound, called nada-anusandhana, is an essential yoga practice. Listening to the Vedas or other scripture is a mystical process. Traditional music is revered as the nectar of the Divine. See: Aum, nada, Siva consciousness.

 | | | Sound And Healing: The Wavelength Of Celestial Sound
In most religious scriptures, Shabd or the Word is referred to as the creator of the universe. It is a current from the ocean of pure consciousness that is characterised by ethereal and sublime sound vibration. It is the all-pervading manifestation of God, the radiant sound current, and it is the connecting link between God and His creation. All the powers of nature depend on and work through Shabd.

 | | | Sound And Healing: The Divine Music Within UsDivine music, when you experience it,
brings with it intense and lasting bliss. How can one who has heard this divine
melody describe it to one who has not? Anyone who attempts to describe it would
have to use pale analogies. If we think of the most beautiful music we have
ever heard in this world, it still does not compare with the music known as the
Voice of God.
The divine music is playing within us all
the time. We dont hear it because no one has shown us the way to listen to this
inner music.

Spiritual
- Theosophy
Dictionary on Aum
Aum (Sanskrit) The ancient Indians held that Om, when considered as a single letter ((Sanskrit character)) was the symbol of the Supreme; when written with three letters -- Aum -- it stood among other things for the three Vedas, the three gunas or qualities of nature, the three divisions of the universe, and the deities of the Hindu Trimurti -- Brahma, Vishnu, and Siva -- concerned in the creation, preservation, and destruction of the universe or the beings composing it. "The mystic formula, rŽsumŽ of every science, contained in the three mysterious letters, AUM which signify creation, conservation, and transformation" (IU 2:31). These three letters are supposed by some Hindus to have correspondences as follows: "The letter A is the Sattva Guna, U is the Rajas, and M is the Tamas; these three qualities are termed Nature (Prakriti). . . . A is Bhurloka, U is Bhuvarloka, and M is Svarloka; by these three letters the spirit exhibits itself" (Laheri in Lucifer 10:147). This word is said to have a morally spiritualizing effect if pronounced during meditation and when the mind is at peace and cleansed of all impurities. See also OM

& Yantras
Mantra
meditation is often called " Mantra Yoga", considered to be a part of
"Nada Yoga", which means the "yoga of sound". The great
rishis, seers or saints of ancient India passed down these sacred sound
vibrations for the benefit of all life but especially for human society for
only in the human form of life can one obtain spiritual realisation. These
sacred sound vibrations are known to promote healing on all levels, whilst, at
the same time, awakening the chakras within our ethereal, or subtle, bodies.

 | | | Sound And Healing: The Healing Powers Of Ancient Chants
The sages who gave us the ancient Vedic mantras and hymns were evolved beings who had either attained or come very close to a state of pure consciousness. In their meditations they heard perfect words and sounds - sublime mantras, sacred wisdom arising from within. They passed this sacred wisdom on to their disciples by singing it. In those days all the scriptures were sung, and the rishis and sages understood that chanting the sacred word was an offering to God for the well-being of the earth and all its creatures. They knew that the human voice chanting sacred mantras has healing power and that these pure sounds actually replenish the universe, create harmony, and keep the universe healthy.

 | | | Sound And Healing: Trimurti of Maths, Music, Meditation
Music comes closest to meditation. Music is a way towards meditation and the most beautiful way. Meditation is the art of hearing the soundless sound, the art of hearing the music of silence - what the Zen people call the sound of one hand clapping. When you are utterly silent, not a single thought passes your mind, there is not even a ripple of any feeling in your heart. Then you start, for the first time, hearing silence.

 | | | Sound And Healing: Sangeet Marga - Path To Moksha
According to the Hindu view of creation, it was sound and not light that appeared first. In Vedic parlance it is called Nada Brahma or the Sound Celestial. Vedic rishis believed that the evolution of the Brahmand or universe was caused as a result of Bindu Visphot or an atomic explosion, that produced infinite waves of sound, which represent cosmicascent and expansion. The sound was a monosyllable: Om . Since Om is related to the beginning of the universe, Hindus consider it the most sacred syllable with which Vedic mantras commence.

The Meaning of MantraMantras
& Yantras:
The Meaning of Mantra
Mantras,
being sacred sound vibrations, are composed of sacred syllables representative
of and containing within great spiritual power, or energy. Utilising mantras
allows us to concentrate and focus this spiritual energy. The mantras were
perceived originally by the great seers or rishis from the primeval or cosmic
ether and translated into very definite syllables with rhythm and melody.

Yoga: Research
on the effect of vibrations on water
With the spreading of Sahaja Yoga, it became well known that water
can be vibrated by Shri Mataji, directly by her personal impact or in the
presence of her photograph. Many people experienced medicinal properties of
such water. Vibrated water doesn't get spoiled when stored for a very long
time, like several months. For estimating the quality of the water we used
standard, worldwide accepted, sanitary chemical characteristics, which
indirectly characterize the degree of water contamination.

Yantra?Sacred Geometry: YANTRAS - What is a Yantra?
All ancient
cultures had sacred geometric designs representative of their Gods, which had a
mantra (or sacred sound vibration) that corresponded to it. The Indians,
Egyptians, Jews, Chinese, and Mayans all had systems of "planetary
yantras" used to combat malefic influences. Yantra is the ultimate
"symbology". In the Vedic culture we find much power and energy said
to be held within sacred geometric symbols. They are to be found throughout
sacred scriptures, carved in stone, hidden within paintings and in temples.

Surrender and ServiceMost of our
ideas about surrender are just ideas, not lived sacrifice. Those who do not
know surrender can only talk about surrender, intuit surrender, and pray for
surrender. They certainly should not assume that they are surrendered
simply because they can speak about it elegantly, or because they once had an
insight about it.
