Since 1903 the Castle Solitude was the finishing point of hillclimb races. In later years, the grounds of the castle served as driver camps, especially for closed-circuit races with different fastidious track variants in the hilly area, reminding of the Targa Florio. From 1935-1965, the 11.3 kilometers course south of the castle was used for World Championship motorcycle Grand Prix racing. From 1961 to 1965, a series of non-campionship Formula 1 races were held also at the same weekend. Pilots were, among others, John Surtees, Jim Clark, Dan Gurney, Jack Brabham. Solitude: An Enduring Romance With the Self

The outer is always a reflection of the inner. In silence and solitude the seeker makes a concerted effort to fill himself with the highest and most positive of energies and then carries that holy space around him wherever he goes. In spreading serene and tranquil vibrations a seeker is serving the world. Sathya Sai Baba says: There are many ways to serve the world. You can serve, if not actively, then at least by your serenity. Everyone need not do all things. Only a small minority can delight in serenity and remain still. God has ruled it so; otherwise how could the world function? If stillness be your destiny, dare to be so...

Solitude: Friendliness Brings Happiness & Health

The art of being in a state of solitude is called Prekshadhyana . Those who have learnt to be in solitude can establish friendliness with the present moment. Now the question arises, "Why is friendliness required?" The answer is, 'search within'. We seek the truth with the help of spirituality and science.

Science helps to develop physical and material comforts. But searching for truth through spirituality strengthens friendliness.

Solitude: The Vanaprastha or the Recluse in Sanatana Dharma

The third stage is that of the Varnaprastha. Brahmacharya is a preparation for the life of the householder. Even so, Vanaprastha is a preparation for the final stage of Sannyasa. After discharging all the duties of a householder, he should retire to the forest or a solitary country place and begin to meditate in solitude on higher spiritual things

Solitude: Prayer Lifts The Spirit

Meditation lights up your heart, and liberates you from all desire for evil. In meditation you may discuss your tribulations with God; you may excuse yourself for your misdeeds and implore the Lord to grant you your desire to approach nearer to God. Devote some time each day to commune with the Lord in solitude; converse with Him. If you cannot concentrate, continue to express your thoughts in words. Words are like water which fall upon a rock until it breaks; words will break through your flinty heart. Words are the shell, meditation the kernel. Words are the body of prayer; meditation, its spirit.

Solitude: Madonna - A Life Of Supplication

Two images of Mary have dominated the Christian consciousness through the years. One is that of the Madonna, whom artists depict as holding a naked newborn, offering the world life.

The second popular image of Mary is that of the Pieta - the mother of the suffering servant, the sorrowful mother. Artists never tire of painting Mary standing in solitude at the foot of the cross, the woman whose heart was pierced with a sword.Theologian Richard Rohr writing on Mary says that we are mothered into life and mothered out of life.

Solitude: Contentment is the Kernel of Happiness

Kabir highlighted the importance of santosh or contentment in our lives. Indian culture teaches us to be content in all situations. But today, we are not happy with the grades our child gets, our pay packet, our spouse, or our ageing parents. Much of the stress in our lives is the result of our inability to be content with what we have.

Solitude: Encyclopedia - Ægypt

Ægypt is a (projected) sequence of four novels by John Crowley detailing the work and life of Pierce Moffett, who prepares a manuscript for publication even as it prepares him for some as-of-yet unknown destiny, all set amidst strange and subtle Hermetic manipulations among the Faraway Hills of New York. The narrative of the manuscript in question, historical fiction following John Dee and Edward Kelley's adventures, mingles with the text of Ægypt and the narrative of Pierce's real and dream life. Bantam Books decided to re-title and publicize Solitudes, the initial volume, as Ægypt—the ...
