The Stewart family was a deeply religious middle-class African-American family from Dallas, Texas. K.C. and Alpha Stewart held the family together under the doctrines of the Church of God in Christ, and encouraged their musical expression. Sly & the Family Stone were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. The members of the Family Stone were in attendance, but Sly was not.
