Sky: Dream Interpretation Dictionary - Sky

Sky

Sunny skies denote happiness and prosperity, while cloudy or stormy skies foretell trouble ahead, perhaps family quarrels. The day sky represents the ability to see clearly, while the night sky hints at things hidden from view. The night sky, however, can also represent comfort and security. A sky full of stars, like sunny skies, is an omen of hope, and great opportunities lie ahead.

Sky: Encyclopedia II - Andrew Neil - Sky

In 1988 he also became founding chairman of Sky TV, also part of Murdoch's News Corporation. Neil was instrumental in the company's launch, overseeing the transformation of a down market, single channel satellite service into a four channel network in less than a year. Neil and Murdoch stood side by side at Sky's new headquarters in west London on February 5, 1989 to witness the launch of the service at 18.00. Sky was not an instant success, the uncertainty caused by the competition provided by British Satellite Broadcasting (BSB) and the initial shortage of sa ...

Sky: Encyclopedia - Sky

The sky is (roughly) that part of the atmosphere or of outer space visible from the surface of the earth (or any other planet; see Skies of other planets). Birds, airplanes, and kites are often considered to fly in the sky. It is difficult to define precisely for several reasons. During daylight the sky has the appearance of an opaque blue surface, but this is the result of the air scattering sunlight. There is no "blue object" above the earth in any normal sense, so it is hard to say what object the sky is. The sky is thus sometimes ...

Sky: Dream Interpretation Dictionary - Sky

Sky [208]

  • To dream of the sky, signifies distinguished honors and interesting travel with cultured companions, if the sky is clear. Otherwise, it portends blasted expectations, and trouble with women.
  • To dream of floating in the sky among weird faces and animals, and wondering all the while if you are really awake, or only dreaming, foretells that all trouble, the most excruciating pain, that reach even the dullest sense will be distilled into one drop called jealousy, and will be inserted into your faithful love, and loyalty will suffer dethronement.
  • To see the sky turn red, indicates that public disquiet and rioting may be expected.

Sky: Encyclopedia II - Sky - Sky in religion

Many cultures ascribed strong religious qualities to Earth's sky, believing it to be the home of the heavens and various deities. Among the Chinese, in certain situations, sky means god. For example, people may say "They became friends after several fights: this is the idea of the sky" or "Why does the sky always fool me?" Some religion and art historians believe that in Christianity, in particular, the connection between heaven and sky arose because of a medieval painting technique, where different places were drawn separately ...

Sky: Encyclopedia II - British Sky Broadcasting - History

See Sky Television plc and British Satellite Broadcasting for pre-merger history. British Sky Broadcasting - Origins. By 1990 both Rupert Murdoch's Sky Television and the BSB alliance were beginning to struggle with the burden of massive losses. The collapse of BSB in November 1990 led to a merger, which was in effect a takeover by Sky - quality programming and superior technical quality had been no match for shrewd, agg ...

Sky: Dreams Interpretation Dictionary - Earth

Earth

(1) Contrasted with the sky, earth may symbolize a need to "keep your feet on the ground" or pay attention to "earthly" aspects of your being.

(2) It may be "Mother Earth", symbolizing your own mother. Bear in mind that earth, as well as giving birth to things, also swallows them up again (when they die). Similarly, your mother - or your attachment to her - may have a "devouring" aspect: one that hinders your individual development.

Mother Earth may also represent your unconscious. Life-giving energy comes up from the unconscious region. This is the "womb" that contains potential for further development. Again, this may present a negative effect: the unconscious may seem to be threatening the conscious ego's attempts to maintain order in your life. However, the menacing appearance of the unconscious is a sign that such "order" is precarious, having been achieved at the expense of neglecting important parts of your psyche. Wholeness is what counts.

(3) The planet earth seen as a sphere floating in space could be a symbol of your true self, as yet unrealized (i.e. not yet translated from idea or ideal into act and fact); wholeness, integration; or a weightless, relaxed "floating" with the life-giving currents that will carry you to fulfillment of your individual "destiny".

Sky: Dreams Interpretation Dictionary - Cliff

Cliff

To be at the edge of a cliff is to be where earth meets both sea and sky. Sky is a symbol of consciousness/masculinity; sea is the unconscious/femininity.

(1) What is symbolized may be a critical point in your life, a time for decision.

(2) The decision may be one concerning the polarity of male and female, the masculine and feminine components of your psyche. If you are a woman, it may be that a decision has to be made concerning the conflicting worlds of career and domesticity. (Sky would then symbolize masculine assertiveness and active participation in the world; sea, feminine attributes such as motherhood and nurturing.)

(3) The cliff edge may be the "end of the road", signifying that you have come as far as you can in a particular endeavor of lifestyle, and that something radically new is called for. Perhaps this new approach to living means entering into a close relationship with Nature (represented by the sea or sky) or bringing together the conscious and unconscious parts of your psyche.

It may be a question of whether you can find within yourself enough strength and faith to step out into the unknown future; or throw yourself off the cliff - that is, withdraw from life's challenge.

(4) The horizon may be the significant thing in the dream. This may mean you are being challenged to take a bigger view of things, to see life and/or yourself on a grander scale, in order to find a new and more satisfying motivation for your life.

Sky: Life's a Bubble, It Could Burst

If you look up in the sky during the day, you see the Sun. That becomes the most dominant in your experience. In the night, if you look up, the stars become very dominant in your experience, but both the Sun and the stars - in fact, the Sun happens to be a star, too - look like puny little things when compared to the immense vastness of the sky. Generally, though, the sky is never in your conscious perception.

So, true existence can be likened to the vastness of the sky. The Sun, the stars, you and me, are all just small happenings, very brief happenings, really

Sky: Encyclopedia II - Star catalogue - Full-sky catalogues

Bayer and Flamsteed covered only a few thousand stars between them. In theory, full-sky catalogues try to list every star in the sky. There are, however, literally hundreds of millions, even billions of stars resolvable by telescopes, so this is an impossible goal; these kind of catalogs generally try to get every star brighter than a given magnitude. Sky: Encyclopedia II - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - Julian's drawing

According to the Beatles, one day in 1966 Lennon's son Julian came home from nursery school with a drawing he said was of his classmate, a girl named Lucy. Showing the artwork to his father, young Julian described the picture as "Lucy - in the sky with diamonds." Julian later said, "I don't know why I called it that or why it stood out from all my other drawings but I obviously had an affection for Lucy at that age. I used to show dad everything I'd built or painted at school and this one sparked of ...

Sky: The how and why of the Mayan end date in 2012 AD

Why did the ancient Mayan or pre-Maya choose December 21st, 2012 A.D., as the end of their Long Count calendar? This article will cover some recent research. Scholars have known for decades that the 13-baktun cycle of the Mayan "Long Count" system of timekeeping was set to end precisely on a winter solstice, and that this system was put in place some 2300 years ago. This amazing fact - that ancient Mesoameri- can skywatchers were able to pinpoint a winter solstice far off into the future - has not been dealt with by Mayanists. And why did they choose the year 2012? One immediately gets the impression that there is a very strange mystery to be confronted here. I will be building upon a clue to this mystery reported by epigrapher Linda Schele in Maya Cosmos (1994). This article is the natural culmination of the research relating to the Mayan Long Count and the precession of the equinoxes that I explored in my recent book Tzolkin: Visionary Perspectives and Calendar Studies (Borderlands Science and Research Foundation, 1994).

Sky: Nataraja Reveals Cosmic Secrets

Ever since historian Ananda Coomaraswamy extolled the Nataraja bronze (dancing Shiva) from Tamil Nadu as ''poetry but nonetheless science’’, interpreting the Nataraja as the ''cosmic dance’’ of Shiva has been widely accepted.

Fritjof Capra catapulted Nataraja into a modern-day scientific icon when he euphorically stated in his cult book of 1974 The Tao of Physics that ''the dancing Shiva is the dancing universe, the ceaseless flow of energy going through an infinite variety of patterns that melt into one another’’.
