Sit: One needs maturity to simply sit quietly

To seek the Divine within, is it necessary to withdraw from worldly affairs/ Does it not imply running away from one's responsibilities?

It all depends on what it is that you are calling worldly affairs. What kind of worldly affairs you want to do is your choice.... Somebody is in politics, somebody is just a clerk in an office, somebody is running a whole industry and somebody is just sweeping the floors. All of them are doing worldly affairs. So you cannot really withdraw from worldly affairs.

Sit: Importance Of Asanas

Four Asanas are prescribed for the purpose of Japa and meditation. They are Padmasana, Siddhasana, Svastikasana and Sukhasana. You must be able to sit in any one of these four Asanas at a stretch for full three hours without shaking the body. Then only you will get Asana-Jaya, mastery over the Asana. Without securing a steady Asana, you cannot further get on well in meditation. The steadier you are in your Asana, the more you will be able to concentrate and make your mind one-pointed. If you can be steady in the posture even for one hour, you will be able to acquire one-pointed mind and feel thereby infinite peace and Atmic Ananda.

Excerpt from the book Kundalini Yoga by Sri Swami Sivananda.

Sit: Why do some people use music while meditating?

Why do some people use music while meditating?

Meditative music can help in establishing a meditative atmosphere. Also, some people find meditation relatively easy but find that the hard thing is to actually get themselves to sit down and start their meditation. Music can help make this easier. Some people use music quite often while others prefer silent meditation and never use it.
