Sexual Dictionary: Dream Interpretation Dictionary - Sexuality, Sex

Sexuality/Sex

1. If the sexual encounter is with someone the dreamer loves and desires, and who reciprocates his or her feelings, then happy times with that person lie ahead. If the encounter is with someone whose feelings the dreamer isn't sure of, it could mean the same, but it could also be nothing more than a wish-fulfillment dream. Look to other symbols in the dream in order to discern its true meaning.

2. If the encounter is an unpleasant one with either a stranger or someone whom the dreamer does NOT like, the dreamer is trying to avoid a distasteful choice or confrontation that perhaps should actually be faced.

3. If the encounter is a pleasant one with a partner that the dreamer does not know, then the dreamer is about to gain something that he's been wanting for a long time. Again, to ascertain what it is, look to other symbols in the dream.

Sexual Dictionary: Dream Dictionary - Sexual Intercourse, Sex

Sexual Intercourse

The interpretation of this dream depends on the details. If you were personally involved and you enjoyed the experience, it is, obviously, an omen of happy adjustment to your circumstances. If your dream featured others having intercourse, the meaning relates to whether or not your reactions were unpleasant. If they were, it is likely you are repressing an emotional problem and some psychological counseling might prove beneficial; if they were not, contentment and success will soon be yours.

Sexual Dictionary: Hindu - Hinduism Dictionary on Sexuality

sexuality: Hinduism has a healthy, unrepressed outlook on human sexuality, and sexual pleasure is part of kama, one of the four goals of life.

On matters such as birth control, sterilization, masturbation, homosexuality, bisexuality, petting and polygamy, Hindu scripture is tolerantly silent, neither calling them sins nor encouraging their practice, neither condemning nor condoning.

The two important exceptions to this understanding view of sexual experience are adultery and abortion, both of which are considered to carry heavy karmic implications for this and future births.

Sex : Dream Interpretation Dictionary - Sexual intercourse

Sexual intercourse symbolizes the unification of the conscious and subconscious minds for the purpose of creation.

In a dream, the man and woman represent the conscious and subconscious minds. Intercourse symbolizes the unified effort for the purpose of creation. Those familiar with the mechanics of visualization will understand this mental process. Visualization is a science by which consciously imaged desires are subconsciously produced becoming manifested into physical reality.

Sex, Sexual Dreams

Dreams of sex and looking for sexual meaning in dreams is something of a pastime for dream interpreters. Often, you don't have to look very far. Sexual content, feelings of love, flirtation, attraction and nocturnal rendezvous are often very explicit in dreams.

Sexual meaning has long been a first path of inquiry in dream interpretation. This is due, in part, to the significant contributions of Sigmund Freud to the area of dream interpretation. However, interpreting the sexual content of dreams can be difficult. University studies reveal significant differences in how men and women dream about sex. However, when all is said and done, almost everyone is 'doing it' in dreamland.

How much?

Sex during dreaming is reported as a topic of at least 12 per cent of male dreams and four per cent of female dreams. This discrepancy is generally consistent with our waking sex drives, with men doing much more thinking about the topic than women. (It is said that men think about sex far more than 12 per cent of their waking lives, though.) In his book Finding the Meaning in Dreams, G. William Dumhoff reveals some interesting data about the manifestation of sex in dreams:

Men

Participating 93%

Watching 7%

Women

Participating 68%

Watching 32%

This table indicates that women often separate themselves from what is going on in the dream sexually, whereas men see themselves as participants. This can be significant to understanding why it is more common for men - particularly boys - to have orgasms in the dream state than it is for women. It also reveals the conflict that many women feel about the good-girl/bad-girl taboo.

Aside from overt sexual activities in dreams, the question of sexual images and symbols as they occur in dreams is important. Because sexuality is often cloaked in a heavy shroud of secrecy, either through childhood or throughout life, the subconscious is prone to represent sex in a variety of ways visually. Freud, in his theory of the sexually driven personality, contributed much to this line of thought.

Interpreting sexual dreams

Sexual dreams are not about sex exclusively. Often they are about how we perceive people and how we think others are perceiving us. To construct a framework for interpreting sexual dreams, it is important to identify who is with us in the dream and how we feel about the experiences being had while dreaming.

Certain dreams are simply romantic. Boy and girl meet in the dream state and find themselves enjoying one another. This scenario commonly involves an attractive acquaintance and a generally pleasing environment. There is no violation of taboo, except for a sense that perhaps things are moving a little fast in the nocturnal relationship. Often, the dreamer has simply acted upon a desire for a relationship with a particular person - Freud's theory of wish-fulfillment is a sufficient explanation.

Other dreams begin to press on the boundaries of our taboos. These include dreams with sexual content the dreamer would consider inappropriate in waking, but participates in during the dream. These dreams can be very troubling. One can wake up feeling as though a rape was committed, a fidelity violated, or that innocence has been stripped away. Dreams of this nature may require some more thorough examination.

Identifying the 'who' or 'what' that has generated discomfort is an important first step. Was it a boss, co-worker, friend? Someone much older or younger than you with whom you have an affectionate, but platonic relationship? Or was it the nature of the encounter - coerced, cheating, public, or whatever - that is the most distinct feature of the dream? Who was forcing whom? Was it a stranger who reminded you of someone you know? Representation and displacement relationships are often components of sexual dreaming.

Some of these dreams indicate our own ambivalence about taboos. There is, after all, something exciting about what is forbidden. In other cases, we are expressing our own frustration with a sex life that is not satisfying. Still other times, others have violated our boundaries and we respond by thinking they have taken unmerited favours from us.

In all of these cases, the dreams are worth noting and studying. By looking into what you may find abhorrent at first, you will see aspects of your personality and the relationships around you that are mostly unnoticed. Perhaps most importantly, you will become more aware of the various facets of your personality in those relationships.

Sexual Dictionary: What are the deeper levels of sexual dreams?

Dream FAQ Dictionary: What are the deeper levels of sexual dreams?

What are the deeper levels of sexual dreams?

Our sexual dreams like most dreams are a form of reflective thinking we do at night. in dreams we think in metaphoric pictures and assess our day's experience by comparing it to what we have seen and learned through out our entire lifetime. Since we are much less defensive and more synthetic in our dreams than while awake, we are more honest with ourselves and better able to give ourselves valuable feedback and insight. So our sexual dreams if understood can:

  • Give us first hand experiences and practice in sexual techniques.
  • Help us work through sexual inhibitions and perversions.
  • Show us our psychological blocks to a fulfilling sexual life.

And by using sexual images as metaphors or symbols of emotional and interpersonal issues, our sexual dreams regularly open our eyes to problems in our relationships.

What are the most common sexual dreams?

Dreams of having sex with unexpected partners, (coworkers, old boyfriends, strangers), of being interrupted while in the act, of being on public display, and of wild erotic magic are all common dreams. My book, Sensual Dreaming, discusses the possible interpretations for these dreams.

Dream FAQ Dictionary: So not all our sexual dreams are about sex?

So not all our sexual dreams are about sex?

Right. Very often, our most embarrassing sexual dreams like those of having sex with someone who is gay if you are straight or vice-versa are often not about some hidden sexual desire. Usually the lover in the dream represents some part of your own personality or some goal in your life that you want to come closer to. We all sometimes use sexual imagery in dreams to express how we feel about relationships that are non-sexual, for example, if your boss is raping you in a dream, this may simply express your sense that you are being screwed by him at work.

Sexual Dictionary: How do men and women's favorite sexual dreams differ?

Dream FAQ Dictionary: How do men and women's favorite sexual dreams differ?

How do men and women's favorite sexual dreams differ?

Most women's favorite sexual dreams are of men who take their time, are experienced and highly attuned to the woman's sexual and emotional needs and most importantly, who get turned on by turning on the woman. I've never heard a man tell me his favorite sexual dream was of a woman who took her time. Instead, men tell me of women who are entirely uninhibited and ready and eager to do anything. As you can imagine, I've never heard a woman say, " wow! What a dream! I was with a man who would do anything!

Sexual Dictionary: What good would it do us to understand sexual dreams?

Dream FAQ Dictionary: What good would it do us to understand sexual dreams?

What good would it do us to understand sexual dreams?

Well, at the most superficial level of simply noting the kinds of dreams we have and the differences between male and female favorite sexual dreams would improve many people's sexual experience. Many, if not most men and women would get it through their heads that women's inhibitions drive men crazy (and some sometimes drive men away) and that men's failure to discover what women really want sexually leads huge numbers of women to avoid sex and never offer men what they really long for.

Sexual Dictionary: How can our dreams improve our sexual technique?

Dream FAQ Dictionary: How can our dreams improve our sexual technique?

How can our dreams improve our sexual technique?

When for any reason someone is unwilling or unable to perform a simple sexual behavior, dreams can show the dreamer the issue from a less defensive perspective and help him or her reconsider his or her attitude . Dreams can give the dreamer a first-hand experience of performing the behavior that would pleasure the dreamer or his or her partner.

For example, men who have resisted foreplay out of shyness or laziness have dreamt of fondling their partners and for the first time enjoyed the process of turning their partners on. Women who have refused to give or receive oral sex have had dreams that helped them work through their conflicts and then actually experience pleasure in giving their partners that gift.
