There seems to be no common ground on what actually constitutes pleasurable or painful act ...

sadist: Encyclopedia II - Hedonism - Hedonism and Egoism

Hedonism can be conjoined with either Psychological or Moral Egoism to make psychological hedonism a purely descriptive claim which states that agents naturally seek pleasure, or ethical hedonism, the claim that we should act so as to produce our own pleasure. One constant objection is that where one finds pleasure, another may find pain, leading to a contradiction in what the moral act is. However, hedonism is not necessarily related to egoism. The Utilitarianism of John Stuart Mill is sometimes classified as a t ...

sadist: Encyclopedia II - Utilitarianism - Types of utilitarianism

Utilitarianism - Negative utilitarianism. Most utilitarian theories deal with producing the greatest amount of good for the greatest number. Negative utilitarianism requires us to promote the least amount of evil or harm, or to prevent the greatest amount of harm for the greatest number. sadist: Encyclopedia II - Francis Bacon painter - London Berlin and Paris

Bacon spent the Autumn and Winter of 1926 in London, with the help of an allowance of £3 a week from his mother's trust fund, living on his instincts, simply 'drifting', and reading Nietzsche. When he was broke, Bacon found that, by the very simple expedient of rent-dodging and petty theft, he could manage a reasonable economy. To supplement his income, Bacon very briefly tried domestic service, but, although he enjoyed cooking, quickly became bored, and resigned. He was sacked from a job answering the telephone for a shop in Poland Street, Soho, that sold women's clo ...
