Rock Against Communism: Encyclopedia II - Skrewdriver - Right-wing reincarnation

Although the original band had a reputation for attracting violence at their gigs (Bob Geldof was reportedly knocked unconscious at one Skrewdriver gig), they did not openly support any political party. The new Skrewdriver, however, were openly sympathetic and supportive of extreme right-wing groups such as the National Front and Combat 18, and raised funds for them and affiliated organizations through their White Noise record label. They also released records on Rock-O-Rama Records, a label that is known for its far right sympathies, and were instrumental in setting up Blood and Honour, a network ...

Rock Against Communism: Encyclopedia II - Battlezone - Development

The vector technique is similar to the visuals of games such as Asteroids. The game was designed by Ed Rotberg, who designed many games for Atari, Atari Games, and Sente. A version called The Bradley Trainer (also known as Army Battlezone or Military Battlezone) was also designed for use by the US army as targeting training for gunners on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. Only two of them were produced, one was delivered to the army and is presumed lost; the other is in a private collection. The gunner yoke was based ...

Rock Against Communism: Encyclopedia II - Nazi Punk - History

The history of this faction within the Punk subculture dates back as early as the late 1970s, with an organization from England known as the Punk Front. This group was a division of the racialist organziation, The British National Front. The Nazi Skinhead subculture took over as the leaders of the White Power music movement soon after the demise of the Punk Front in the early 1980s. However, Nazi-Punkism started sparking up world-wide. It eventually hit America by the 1980s, during the rise of the American Hardcore Punk scene. Although the numbers of Nazi Punks have always been small within the subculture, it should ...

Rock Against Communism: Encyclopedia II - Skinhead - History

London in the early 1960s was experiencing a growing class separation between the working class - struggling, relegated to substandard housing, and increasingly neglected by their political representatives - and the middle class. Those youths who could afford it, invested in new fashions popularized by American soul groups, British RnB bands and certain movie actors, as well as Carnaby Street merchants (clothing). These were the Mods, a youth subculture noted for its consumerism and affection for style, music and scooters. Those of lesser me ...

Rock Against Communism: Encyclopedia II - Nazi Punk - Nazi Punk Music

Musically, Nazi Punk is similar to most other forms of punk music. Nazi Punk bands have been found in several genres of Punk, including Oi! Punk, Streetpunk, and Hardcore Punk. Rock Against Communism: Encyclopedia II - Battlezone - Legacy

A clone (author unknown) of the game for DOS called "bzone.exe" circulated through the BBS community in the 1980s. Rock Against Communism: Encyclopedia II - Skinhead - Music

Music plays an important role in any youth subculture and skinheads are no exception. There are a number of different "types" of skinhead falling into three main categories suggested by common usage. Traditional (Trad), Trojan Skinheads (after the Trojan Records label), or Original Skins - Unlike the other categories, traditional skinheads do not regard attitudes toward racism as central to the subculture. Instead, they identify with the original skinhead movement ("The Spirit of 69") in music, style, culture and working class pride. SHARP (Skin ...

Rock Against Communism: Encyclopedia II - Battlezone - Cabinet

The game cabinet was a standard vertical shape with a novel "periscope" viewfinder which the player used to view the game. The game action could also be viewed from the sides of the viewfinder for spectators to watch. A later, less common version of the cabinet removed the periscope to improve visibility to non-players and improve the ergonomics for players who could not reach the periscope; hygienic concerns with the periscope, against which users pressed their faces, ...
