Requiem is also used to describe any sacred composition that sets religious texts that would be appropriate at a funeral, or to describe such compositions for liturgies other than the Roman Catholic mass. Requiem Berlioz - Orchestration.
The Requiem is written for a large orchestra and chorus, with twenty woodwinds, twelve horns, and over a hundred strings. The brass ensembles include six horns, eight trumpets, eight trombones, and three tubas. The work premired with over four hundred performers.
