Buddhist Festivals - LosarBuddhism - Buddhist Festivals: Losar
The
most important holiday in Tibet is Losar, which celebrates the Tibetan New
Year. It's celebrated in February, but the exact date varies each year
according to the lunar calendar. Losar is a three day festival. On the first
day celebrations are usually restricted to the family, with the second and
third days being the time to visit and exchange gifts with friends and more
distant relatives.

Buddhist Festivals - Sangha DayBuddhism - Buddhist Festivals: Sangha Day
This
festival is also known as Fourfold Assembly or Magha Puja Day.
Sangha
Day is the second most important Buddhist festival. It is a celebration in
honour of the Sangha, or the
Buddhist community. For some Buddhists Sangha refers only to monks and nuns. It is a chance for
people to reaffirm their commitment to Buddhist practices and traditions.
Sangha Day commemorates the spontaneous gathering of 1,250 enlightened monks
(arahants), to hear the Buddha preach at Veluvana Vihara.

 | | | Religion in the United Kingdom: Karma YogaKarma Yoga - The Yoga of Action
Karma yoga joins both the physical and
mental aspects of Hindu philosophy to produce a single concept. It believes
that the present relies on the past and that in turn, with your actions, you
can alter the future. Selflessness is a primary requirement for karma practice.
Steering your actions towards the good Ð saying good, thinking good, doing good
will all facilitate selflessness. Acting this way eliminates egoistic and
negative behaviour and enables you to influence your destiny.

 | | | Religion in the United Kingdom: Individual Will No Match for Mad Mobs
In the 60s, a communal riot shook a certain town. I was surprised, for it was a new settlement grown around a huge industry. The population was largely labourers and officials from all over India. There was no tradition of animosity between communities; they were united by a common existential necessity. One winter evening, on a visit to the town, I asked my friends, "Where did so many violent people come from, all of a sudden?"

 | | | Religion in the United Kingdom: Soul loss is a spiritual illness Soul loss is a spiritual illness that causes emotional and physical
disease. We all spend a tremendous amount of psychic energy looking for lost
parts of ourselves. We do this unconsciously, and we do this in many ways:
generating dreams and daydreams, experimenting with numerous spiritual paths
and creating relationships that mirror back to us our missing parts, to name
but a few. Many of us today don't feel totally whole, don't feel as if we are
all here. Few of us live as fully as we could.

 | | | Religion in the United Kingdom: Tantra YogaTantra Yoga
Tantra Yoga is probably the most
misconstrued of all yogas. Most people perceive it as purely sexual, and
although sex is a part of it, its key principle is actually consecration. This
means to make everything you do, sacred or holy. It encourages a ritualistic
approach to life. In this way, it draws our attention to our actions in all
states, whether asleep or awake. Purity, devotion and courage are essential to
Tantric practices.

AS A HOMEOPATH AND ASTROLOGER I see a lot of Indigo Children that are brought to me, not because they are Indigo, but because of physical or behavioural problems. Past Life Vows and Pacts
Many
of us have had past lives in monastic environments, religious orders, secret
sects and so on. Some of us will have made strong vows in the name of God with
much emotion and determination, believing that they were right, and perhaps
they were for us at that time. A vow made with strong intent carries over into
other lifetimes unless a time limit is specified, which is usually not the
case. We may have made vows of chastity, celibacy, poverty, silence, suffering,
cleanliness, purity, everlasting love or of vengeance against someone who hurt
or tricked us. All these prior vows are limitations that can constrict our
souls and restrict our freedom.

 | | | Religion in the United Kingdom: Sincere Prayer for Peace and Harmony
In India, the day begins with worship. People pray, bow and meditate. Members of the Jain community all over India bathe, put on new clothes and walk barefoot to their local temple. They embark on their daily pilgrimage with no possessions and with high aspirations. Some of them carry a cloth mask which they wear when inside the temple. From the moment they walk into the temple, all worldly concerns are set aside to facilitate meditation. Their focus is on the Tirthankaras , the teachers who conquered their own vices to teach the world about compassion and salvation through example. The recitation of the Namokar Mahamantra encourages them to salute the achievements of all divine souls who attained salvation.
