Relationship: Encyclopedia II - Relationship between New Zealand and Australia - Relationships

Relationship between New Zealand and Australia - Intra Migration. Many New Zealanders have migrated to Australia, particularly to Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. Unlike citizens of other countries, New Zealand passport holders are issued with ‘special category’ visas on arrival in Australia, which allow them to live and work there. Although officially reciprocal, the traffic is essentially in one direction only; few Australians choose to live and work in New Zealand. A notable exception is Progressiv ...

Relationship: Encyclopedia II - Quantitative structure-property relationship - Rationale

The basic rationale behind the use of QSPR is the fact that there are strong trends. It is well known for instance that within a particular family of chemical compounds, especially of organic chemistry, that there are strong correlations between structure and observed properties. One example is the relationship between the number of carbons in alkanes and their boiling points. There is a clear trend in the increase of boiling point with an increase in the number carbons and t ...

Relationship: Encyclopedia II - Age disparity in sexual relationships - Motives

There are many factors which draw both young and old into such age-disparate relationships. Age disparity in sexual relationships - Fertility and evolutionary psychology. Women generally begin to lose fertility as they enter their late twenties, while men remain almost their full fertility until much later in life. Evolutionary psychology suggests that people are more likely to be attracted to people who look like they might be fertile. Certainly anyone deliberately looking for a mate to breed with must pi ...

Relationship: Encyclopedia II - Age disparity in sexual relationships - Social criticism

In some societies age-disparate relationships are seen as aberrant or even perverse. Historically, the "gold digger" mentality has been frowned upon as being akin to prostitution. The age difference that is generally accepted by modern society varies directly with the age of the individuals involved in the relationship; larger differences are more acceptable with older individuals. For example, while a seven-year difference might be considered unacceptable (even illegal in some places) between a 22-year-old and a 15-year-old, it is less remarkable between a 30-year-old and a 23-y ...

Relationship: Encyclopedia II - Age disparity in sexual relationships - Slang terms

A number of slang terms exist to describe pairings in which one individual is much older than the other: Gold digging refers to a relationship in which a young person pursues an older person for monetary gain, and is discussed in greater detail in other sections of this article. May-December romance is a general and non-prejudicial expression for an age-disparate relationship. The expression draws an implicit analogy between one's lifetime and the time of year. Thus "May" refers to the younger partner, who ...

Relationship: Encyclopedia II - Customer relationship management - Privacy and ethical concerns

CRMs are not however considered universally good - some feel it invades customer privacy and enable coercive sales techniques due to the information companies now have on customers - see persuasion technology. However, CRM does not necessarily imply gathering new data, it can be used merely to make "better use" of data the corporation already has. But in most cases they are used to collect new data. Some argue that the most basic privacy concern is the centralised database itself, and that CRMs built this way are inherently privacy-in ...

Relationship: Encyclopedia II - Customer relationship management - CRM in Business

In this day and age the use of internet sites and specifically e-mail, in particular, are touted as less expensive communication methods, compared to traditional methods like telephone calls. This revolutionary type of service can be very helpful, but it is completely useless if you are having trouble reaching your customers. It has been determined by some major companies that the majority of clients trust other means of communication, like telephone, more than they trust e-mail. Clients, however, are not the ones to blame because it is ofte ...

Relationship: Encyclopedia II - Age disparity in sexual relationships - History

Historically, unequal pairings are quite common, if not the rule. In Classical Greece men would typically marry around the age of thirty, and would take wives in their mid-teens. Men in positions of prestige or power have often taken young women as lovers or wives. Similarly, women of influence have also initiated relationships with younger men. Many arranged marriages are age-disparate, with the husband being much older than the wife. For example, John Rolfe married Pocahontas in 1614; he was at least 10 years older than she. Laura I ...

Relationship: Social Studies Dictionary - Earth-Sun Relationships

Definition and meaning of Earth-Sun Relationships

Earth-Sun Relationships - [World Geography]

The Sun is the source of all energy on Earth. Earth is tilted on its axis 23 1/2 degrees and rotates once every 24 hours producing day and night. It revolves around the Sun in a yearly movement. This combination of tilt and revolution produces seasonal variation in the amount of energy different parts of Earth receive. This variation, along with other factors, produces global patterns of temperature and precipitation, the two key components of climate. The Sun's rays are most intense north of the equator (23 1/2 degrees N -- the Tropic of Cancer) in June and south of the equator (23 1/2 degrees S -- the Tropic of Capricorn) in December. About half of the energy from the sun is distributed away from the equator by wind and ocean currents. The other half is reradiated back into space to maintain an energy balance.

Relationship: Encyclopedia II - Entity-relationship model - Less common symbols

A weak entity is an entity that can't be uniquely identified by its own attributes alone, and therefore must use as its primary key both its own attributes and the primary key of an entity it is related to. A weak entity set is indicated by a bold rectangle (the entity) connected by a bold arrow to a bold diamond (the relationship). Sometimes two entities are more specific subtypes of a more general type of entity. For example, programmers and marketers might both be types of employees at a software company. To indicate this, a triang ...

Relationship: Encyclopedia II - Age disparity in sexual relationships - Modern times

The United States Census Bureau's March 2000 statistics show some 800,000 unmarried American couples are more than five years divergent in age, and 7 in 100 of women married more than once have a husband six or more years younger than they. Age disparities are very common in Hollywood and other artistic subcultures. For example, former James Bond actor Timothy Dalton is 26 years older than his wife Oksana Grigorieva. Tommy Mottola is 23 years older than his wife, Thalia. Michael Douglas is exactly 25 years older than his second ...

Relationship: Encyclopedia II - Third country relationships with the EU - EFTA and EEA

The European Free Trade Association (EFTA) was created to allow European countries to partake in free trade with the European Communities (later European Union), without becoming full members. Most of the countries initially in EFTA have since joined the EU itself, so only four remain outside, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. The European Economic Area (EEA) agreement allows Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein to have access to the EU single market. The four basic freedoms (goods, services, people and capita ...

Relationship: Encyclopedia II - Third country relationships with the EU - European Neighbourhood Policy

According to the European Union's official site, the objective of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) is to share the benefits of the EU’s 2004 enlargement with neighbouring countries. It is also designed to prevent the emergence of new dividing lines between the enlarged EU and its neighbours. The vision is that of a ring of countries, drawn into further integration, but without necessarily becoming full members of the Europ ...

She is in league with the Icemaiden Auril and the Beastlord Malar, under the leadership of the Storm Lord Talos. Together these gods of destruction form the "Gods of Fury" who all reside in the plane of "Fury's Heart". Even though they are in league, Umberlee faces the problem of sailors ascribing her destructive sea storms to the Storm Lord, sailors who in turn for their misguided beliefs are swiftly punished by Umberlee's wrath. Umberlee is strongly opposed to Selûne whose stars guide navigators at sea, Valkur who guides travellers safely hom ...

Relationship: Encyclopedia II - Lissamphibia - Relationships and Controversy

Extant amphibians fall into one of three orders - the anurans or frogs and toads, the urodeles or caudata (newts and salamanders) and the caecilians (limbless forms). Although the ancestry of each group is controversial, all share certain common characteristics, which indicates they evolved from a common ancestor and so form a monophyletic clade. However, whilst the monophyly of the Lissamphibia is accepted by many herpetologists and paleontologists, the origin and relationships of the various Lissamphibian groups both with each other ...
