ARTICLES RELATED TO Reincarnation - Overview | | | | Reincarnation - Overview: Encyclopedia II - Reincarnation - OverviewBelief in reincarnation is an ancient phenomenon; in various guises humans have believed in a future life since the Ancient Egyptians, perhaps earlier, and ancient graves containing both people and possessions may testify to beliefs that a person would have need for their treasured possessions once again despite physical death.
In brief, there are several common concepts of a future life. In each of them either the person, or some essential component that defines that person (variously called the soul or spirit) persists in continuing ...

Reincarnation - Eastern religions and traditions.
In India this doctrine was thoroughly established from ancient times. While metempsychosis was not established in the older sections of the Vedas, it was explicated first in the Upanishads (c. 1000 BC - AD 4), which are philosophico-mystic texts held to be the essence of the Vedas.
The idea that the soul reincarnates is intricately linked to karma, whose first explication was also seen in the Hindu books of the Upanishads. The idea is that individua ...

 | | | Reincarnation - Overview: What is the process of reincarnation? What is the process of reincarnation? Carnate means flesh. The word reincarnate means to "reenter the flesh." We Hindus believe the soul is immortal and keeps reentering a fleshy body time and time again in order to resolve experiences and thereby learn all the lessons life in the material world has to offer. To hindus, it explains the natural way the soul evolves from immaturity to spiritual illumination. I myself have had many lives before this one and expect to have more. Finally, when I have it all worked out and all the lessons have been learned, I will attain mukti. This means I will still exist but no longer be pulled back to incarnate in a physical body. | | | Reincarnation - Overview: Encyclopedia II - Suprnova.org - Legal action and closureAs of late November 2004 a French company, RetSpan, has been seeking legal action against SuprNova. [1]
On December 19, 2004, a message was displayed on Suprnova's front page stating it has officially closed down. Some speculated it was due to its poor server and constant downtime, but others noted that Suprnova had been receiving legal warnings. Later, Sloncek revealed on Suprnova's IRC channel that he and the other administrators were not willing to continue fighting the legal warnings which they have received. The Suprnova page reappeared ...

 | | | Reincarnation - Overview: Encyclopedia II - Bahá'í teachings - Mystical TeachingsThe purpose of human life, say Bahá'ís, is spiritual growth. This is conceived almost as an organic process, like the development of a fetus, and continues after death. Rather than a heaven and hell strictly speaking (or reincarnation, for that matter), Bahá'ís teach an afterlife in which the soul may progress infinitely through ever-more-exalted spiritual realms, towards what Buddhists call Nirvana.
Bahá'ís believe that while God's essence can never be fully fathomed, he can be understood through his "names and attributes." The ...

 | | | Reincarnation - Overview: Encyclopedia II - Abrahamic religion - AfterlifeMost Abrahamic religions agree that a human being comprises the body, which dies, and the soul, which need not do so. The soul, capable of remaining alive beyond human death, carries the essence of that person with it, and God will judge that persons life accordingly after they die. The importance of this, the focus on it, and the precise criteria and end result differs between religions.
Reincarnation and transmigration tend not to feature proeminently in Abrahamic religions. Although as a rule they all look to some form of afterlife ...

 | | | Reincarnation - Overview:
New Age
Spirituality Dictionary on Reincarnation Reincarnation Belief that after a person dies, he returns again to the earth, inhabits a new body, and does this as many times as needed to acheive spiritual perfection. Whereas Hindus typically believe that reincarnation includes transmigration of souls between animal, plant, and even inanimate forms, New Agers believe reincarnation is limited to human and celestial forms. Reincarnation generally assumes a doctrine of karma. The idea is the basis for the practice of attempting past life regression (See also: Reincarnation, New Age Spirituality, Body Mind and Soul)
