CIRCLE: Sacred space wherein all magick is to be worked and all ritual contained. It both holds ritual energy until the witch is ready to release it, and provides protection for the witch.

Anagamin (Sanskrit). Anagam. One who is no longer to be reborn into the world of desire. One stage before becoming Arhat and ready for Nirvana. The third of the four grades of holiness on the way to final Initiation.

Bes (Egypt, Egyptian). A phallic god, the god of concupiscence and pleasure. He is represented standing on a lotus ready to devour his own progeny (Abydos). A rather modern deity of foreign origin.

GO UPON THE LAND: A method used by those who worked the land to determine whether or not the ground was fertile and ready for planting by removing the trousers and sitting upon the land to directly gauge the temperature of the earth.

kshatriya
A member of the second of the four occupational classes in the varnashrama social system. The kshatriyas are the political and military leaders of society. They are expected to be heroic, charitable, selflessly dedicated to the welfare of all citizens, respectful of the spiritual authority of the brahmanas, and ready to use force to stop wrongdoing.

KOAN
A paradoxical Zen riddle designed to occupy the reason, so that the unconscious mind can be freed to look for Mu and experience enlightenment (see MU). The person whose ego is not ready to stand aside will always attempt to give an answer to a koan.

Durvasa
A powerful sage, a partial incarnation of Lord Siva, born as one of the three sons of Atri and Anasuya. He is famous for his angry temperament and his readiness to curse anyone who dissatisfies him.

The stoic philosopher Seneca wrote a short manifesto in AD 49 against dawdlers, procrastinators and other 'time-killers' that seems as fresh and relevant today as it was 2,000 years ago.
 
He began with what in those days was a common complaint: That we are cursed with too short a life span, which often seemed to end just when we were getting ready for it.
