Ramakrishna: God is Without Form

Hindu Quotes: God is Without Form

Imagine Brahman as a sea without shores. Through the cooling love of the bhakta some of the water becomes frozen into blocks of ice. Now and then, God assumes a form and reveals Himself to his lovers as a Person. But when the sun of Knowledge rises, the blocks of ice melt away and God is without form, no more a Person. He is beyond description. Who could describe Him? Anyone who tries disappears, unable to find his "I" any more.

Ramakrishna: Ramakrishna's Steps To Self Knowledge

Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa's advice to house-holders is: "A little spiritual discipline is necessary in order to know what lies within. The painter first draws the outlines and then fills in the details and colours at leisure. The moulder first makes the image out of clay, then plasters it, gives it a coat of whitewash, and last of all, paints it with a brush. All these steps must be undertaken successively." This is Ramakrishna's first 'commandment'.

Ramakrishna: An introduction to Ramakrishna Paramahamsa

Ramakrishna Paramahamsa was one of the most remarkable Indian saints of recent history (1836 -1886). He is chiefly known for his high attainments in approaching God along many different paths. Most saints have one path, one line of attainment in reaching the goal. Ramakrishna, however, explored each in its turn. He was a lively and likeable human, and made a deep impression on all that came into his sphere. He left behind innumerable devotees and helped many to follow the ultimate goal in his footsteps.

Ramakrishna: Inspiring Tales of True Conversion

Swami Ranganathananda of the Ramakrishna Mission says that when a soul is uplifted, a worthwhile conversion takes place that takes the soul vertically upward - from bad to good. This conversion benefits both the individual and society. Organised religion has two sides to it: One is dogmatic, narrow, given to fanaticism, that insists on rituals, rules, regulations, disciplines. The other side, the spiritual, elevates and feeds the soul and accepts goodness in all religions. Rituals and prayers are merely means to rein in our senses to bring out our sattvic gunas.

Ramakrishna: Ma Sarada Devi, Universal Mother

Sarada Devi, Ramakrishna Paramhansa's spouse and spiritual companion, showered endless love on all. Ramakrishna called her "My Shakti" and worshipped her as the Divine Mother. He said that she was the incarnation of Goddess Saraswati.

Sarada Devi's mission was to uplift all without bias of caste or religion. Among her devotees was Amzad, who went to jail for thieving. When Amzad came to see her after a long stint in jail, the Mother simply said: "Amzad, I have been really worried."

Ramakrishna: From The Ridiculous To the Sublime

What is so special about Kriya yoga? It expands your consciousness; it enables you to move up from the ridiculous to the sublime - from say, matters of state, politics and (Cauvery) disputes to a deeper understanding of nature of the Self.

I got this divine intuition some days ago which prompted me to travel to Babaji's cave in Uttaranchal - he used to meditate there. I've been initiated into practising Kriya yoga through divine dispensation. I'd been through hardly a year's basic training before my intuition took me to Babaji's cave...

Ramakrishna: A Mystical Union Of Two Evolved Souls

Sharada's mother, Shyamsundari Devi, had a divine vision of a little girl in a red sari descending from a tree, embracing her by the neck and telling her that she was coming into her family. Shyamsundari fainted. Her husband, Ramachandra, had a dream in which Goddess Lakshmi informed him that she was coming to him soon. To this couple Sharada was born on December 22, 1853.

Ramakrishna: What Is God's Real Form?

What Is God's Real Form?

Does God have a form or is He formless? Adi Sankara preferred a formless God while Ramanujacharya believed that He was both with and without form.

Ramana Maharshi realised the Inner Divine Self by enquiring, ''Who am I?'' Vivekananda was not for dualism, of seeing God in an image. But when Ramakrishna Paramhansa touched his chest to indicate the divinity within, Vivekananda began to 'see' God in every thing - living or non-living.

Ramakrishna: Encyclopedia II - Ramakrishna - Biography

Historically, in India, emphasis is given to the teachings of saints and insufficient attention is paid to dates and details. In the case of Ramakrishna though, we have authentic accounts of his life and times. This was possible because many of his disciples were well educated and had a strong desire to present only facts that could be verified from multiple sources. The main credit for collecting and recording such facts goes to Swami Saradananda, a disciple of the Master. He wrote an authoritative biography to sift the facts from the legen ...

Ramakrishna: Intensity of Faith Yields the Truth

A devotee asked Ramakrishna Parmahansa : "Sir, is God real and can I see Him?" Ramakrishna replied: "Yes, God is real. I see Him just as I see you or any other object around me." The devotee continued: "Can I also see Him as you do?" Said the sage: "Yes, you can, if the intensity of your longing for God is equal to the intensity of a drowning man longing for fresh air; or the intensity of a mother longing for the life of her only child in the grip of serious illness; or of the miser longing for more wealth. If your longing for God is at least a fraction of the longing which Radha had for Krishna, then you will see God."

The miracle of healing, is simply the body offering the subconscious mind's 'knowledge of perfect health' when the questioning nature of the conscious mind is silenced. Real faith is about things happening in the present. If it is hundred per cent faith, it must happen.
