Status: Extinct
Most of the members of the Black family were highly devoted to the Dark Arts. The Black family home is 12 Grimmauld Place, which contains many artifacts of dubious origin; there is also a family tree, now highly incomplete. The reason for the incompleteness is that whenever the family produced anyone the elders disapproved of, the rejected one was disowned and burned off the tapestry. This is what happened to Sirius Black, and to Andromeda Black, who married Muggle-born Ted Tonks. The Family Tree ...

| | | | | Purity: Encyclopedia II - Semiconductor - Required purity and perfection of semiconductor materialsSemiconductors with predictable, reliable electronic properties are necessary for mass production. The level of chemical purity needed is extremely high because the presence of impurities even in very small proportions can have large effects on the properties of the material. A high degree of crystalline perfection is also required, since faults in crystal structure (such as dislocations, twins, and stacking faults) interfere with the semiconducting properties of the material. Crystalline faults are a major cause of defective semiconductor d ...

| | | | | Purity: Encyclopedia II - Selective breeding - Purebred Cats Dogs and the Debate over 'Breed Purity'Most purebred cats and dogs of breeds recognized by all-breed club registries are controlled by "closed studbooks". In a number of modern breeds recognized by the kennel clubs, there are high incidences of specific genetic diseases or disorders and sometimes increased susceptibility to other diseases, reduced litter sizes, reduced lifespan, inability to conceive naturally, etc. This came about because:
Many breeds have been established with too few foundation dogs or ones that were already too closely related, or both

| | | | | Purity: Encyclopedia II - Porajmos - ExterminationThe vast majority of Roma, however, were to suffer the same indignities as the Jews, and in some instances, they suffered even more brutally. According to Porajmos historian Ian Hancock, proportionately, the Roma death toll equaled "and almost certainly exceed[ed], that of Jewish victims."[1] They were herded into ghettos, including the Warsaw Ghetto (April-June, 1942), where they formed a distinct subclass. According to Ghetto diarist Emmanuel Ringelblu ...

Niddah - Biblical sources.
The Torah teaches: "Do not draw close to a woman when she is a niddah; (sexual intercourse) relations are forbidden (at that time)." (Leviticus: 15:19-24, 18:19, 20:18). From this, the laws relating to "ritual purity" or "family purity" and niddah are derived.
The extent to which these laws are followed depend on the movements within Judaism. These laws are strictly followed in the more traditional Orthodox Judaism, and are often reinterpreted in the progressive mov ...

| | | | Purity: Encyclopedia II - VFO - PerformanceThe performance of a radio's VFO strongly influences the performance of the radio itself.
VFO - Accuracy.
It is useful if the frequency produced by the VFO is both stable and repeatable.
An unstable VFO's output frequency will drift with time. The root cause of this can often be traced to temperature dependency in some of the voltages and component values involved. Often as radios warm up it is necessary slightly to re-tune t ...

Niddah - Need for Tahara - purity.
A woman is a niddah until she undergoes taharah ("purification"). The taharah process involves a minimum of twelve days, most often thirteen. These are divided into two sets of time, the "first five days", and "seven days of taharah", after which she must immerse properly in a mikvah (ritual bath).
A woman who does not go through the taharah process cannot become tahor ("pure", the "opposite" state from niddah), even if an extended pe ...

| | | | | Purity: Encyclopedia II - Yazidi - Religious BeliefsIn the Yazidi worldview, God created the world, which is now in the care of a Heptad of seven Holy Beings, often known as Angels or heft sirr (the Seven Mysteries). Pre-eminent among these is Malak Ta’us (Tawûsê Melek in Kurdish), the Peacock Angel, who is equated with Satan or Devil by some Muslims and Christians. "The reason for the Yazidis reputation of being devil worshipers, is connected to the other name of Malak Ta'us, Shaytan, ...

| | | | Purity: Encyclopedia II - Kashrut - Reasons for the Biblical dietary lawsThere continues to be a debate on the purposes and meaning of the laws regarding Kashrut.
In Jewish philosophy it is recognized that many of the 613 mitzvot cannot be explained rationally. They are categorized as chukim, comprising such laws as the Red Heifer (Numbers 19). There are three basic points of view regarding these laws:
One view holds that these laws do have a reason, but it is not understood because the ultimate explanation for mitzvot is beyond the human intellect.
A second view holds t ...

Niddah - Calculation of the niddah period.
The first five days begin when a woman first sees her monthly vaginal blood flow. She counts from the beginning of the flow, and continues until the flow stops. If it takes less than five days for her flow to stop, she still has to wait until five days are over. Even if she saw blood for only one day, she must wait five days until she can begin the seven-day taharah ("purification") process. The five days need not be complete five days. The first day might start in the middle of the day, if she first saw her flow in the afternoon. But whenever they began, they ...

| | | | | Purity: Encyclopedia II - Yazidi - Religious BeliefsFirst and foremost, the Yazidi have a highy cryptic religion, and might in fact be crypto-pagans. That is, they have had to suppress and hide many aspects of their religion from the dominant Muslims around them. Thus, only the initiated actually know the full theology, even among the Yazidi. In 'going cryptic', they have adopted Arabic terminology, and thus refer to their leaders as 'sheiks', for example. They have also come under criticism by Muslims for not being a 'People of the Book', and in response to that have stated that they do, in ...
