pranayama: Any yogic regulation of breathing designed to control the prana (cosmic energy, life force, or vital energy) inside one's body. The Sanskrit word yama literally means self-control. Characterizations of pranayama include breath awareness, deep scientific breathing exercises, and psychic breathing exercise.

Cayce diet: Diet that stems from the readings of psychic Edgar Cayce (see The Cayce Approach to Health and Healing). One of its concepts is that emphasizing in one's diet fruits and vegetables that are locally-grown promotes acclimation and helps to align bodily energies with environmental energies.

psychosynthesis (psychosynthesis therapy): Form of spiritual psychotherapy originated in 1910 by Italian psychiatrist Roberto Assagioli, M.D. (1888-1974), and developed by Johannes Schultz. Its design is to effect the integration and growth of the self and to release and direct psychic energies generated thereby. Its theory posits chakras (energy centers).

Aura:

Term used to describe the subtle energy field surrounding all living things, including plants, animals, and human beings. Said to appear in a rainbow of colors which conform to the outline of the being.

Predominant colors or the brightness of the energy field may be interpreted as indicative of the subject's psychological condition, relative health, or spiritual advancement. Sometimes thought to be proof of the existence of an "astral body". "Kirlian photography" reportedly is able to visually document auras.

nadi:

"river". current or channel of psychic energy. Conduits of prana. Nerve passages in the body. There are said to be 72,000 nadis. The pulse. 150th part of the ascendant in a sidereal birth chart.

Magic:

(1) A general term for arts, sciences, philosophies and technologies concerned with (a) understanding and using various altered states of consciousness within which it is possible to have access to and control over one’s psychic talents, and (b) the uses and abuses of those psychic talents to change interior and/or exterior realities.

(2) A science and an art comprising a system of concepts and methods for the build-up of human emotions, altering the electrochemical balance of the metabolism, using associational techniques and devices to concentrate and focus this emotional energy, thus modulating the energies broadcast by the human body, usually to affect other energy patterns whether animate or inanimate, but occasionally to affect the personal energy pattern.

(3) A collection of rule-of-thumb techniques designed to get one’s psychic talents to do more or less what one wants, more often than not, one hopes. It should be obvious that these are thaumaturgical definitions.

Chakra:

This word has a number of meanings. Amongst them, a spinning circle, a diagram formed more or less in the shape of a circle, a center of energy radiating from a central point within the body and also a cycle or procession of events that recurs in a circular fashion. This is also the word used to describe a chart such as in the two-word combination of rasi chakra, which means the chart, or circular formation of the signs of the zodiac. The best single word for defining chakra is circle.

THERIOMORPH

Household icons of animals. Deer antlers store psychic energies and keep out negative spirits. Owl ornaments are supposed to guard against fire. Other taxidermic figures serve a multitude of functions.

Shield:

An area around a being or object within which one or more forms of (usually) antipsi energies are operating in order to defend the being or object from unwanted psychic intrusions; the process of setting up and maintaining such an antipsi field.

CRYSTAL BALL: though many types of crystal can be bought in sphere (round) form, this term is almost exclusively a reference to the clear quartz type, used for scrying and divination. Its round shape makes it a Goddess symbol, which is why periodic moonbaths will keep it clear of negative energies and enhance its psychic powers.

The Fusion meditations are a means of transforming negative energy into a quality neutral force that fuses with positive energy into a Chi ball. According to Fusion theory, the Chi ball opens and cleanses eight special bodily channels used for psychic protection and nourishes the soul (higher energy body).

Unstruct sound, Anahata nada:

Kundalini is characterized by three different types of energy as it rises through various spiritual centers (known as chakras). At the beginning the energy is said to be gross, and the yogi's consciousness reflects the seeming diversity of the universe. At the intermediate level the energy is subtler and the yogi's consciousness becomes attuned to the unity within the diversity. At this stage the yogi begins to hear what are known as unstruct sounds.

Among other things, these sounds may resemble that of a hand-bell, a flute, a buzzing bee ... As the kundalini continues to rise, the energy becomes subtler still and it's almost as if the yogi becomes absorbed in the subtlest of sounds, a sound which is no sound. At this point the yogi's consciousness stops perceiving diversity altogether. All that remains is I am.

magical diet (magical diets): System of food magic devised by Scott Cunningham (1956-1993), author of more than a dozen books on magic and/or witchcraft. Its principle is that different foods harbor different magical energies. For example, Cunningham recommended canned chili, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and iced tea for magical and physical energy, and Seven-Up and fast-food fish sandwiches for psychic awareness. He advised: Avoid all fad diets.

Five Rites of rejuvenation (Five Rites, The Five Tibetans, Tibetan Five Rites): Subject of Peter Kelder's Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth, first published in 1939, published by Harbor Press Inc. in 1989, and published by Doubleday - with The Lost Chapter - in 1998.

The Rites are bodily movements of Tibetan origin, that resemble those of hatha yoga. Practicing them: accelerates the flow of vital energy through chakras and encourages these centers or vortices of psychic energy to function optimally.

The Five Rites are also the subject of The Five Tibetans: Five Dynamic Exercises for Health, Energy, and Personal Power (Inner Traditions International Ltd., 1994), by Christopher S. Kilham.
