The difference between Ghosts and Poltergeists A widely held
misconception regarding poltergeists is that the terms poltergeist and ghost
are synonymous. Although there is some similarity between the two, there are
several characteristics that set them apart. For example, poltergeist activity
is known as a "disturbance," whereas ghost-like activity (fog, mist,
transparent figures, etc.) is known as a "haunting." The reason for
this difference in terminology is because poltergeists are heard but not seen,
whereas ghosts are seen but seldom heard.

 | | | Poltergeists: Ghost TheoriesThere are many different phenomena that tend to get lumped
together under the label "ghost." Poltergeists, for example, are the
projected energy of a living person that causes noises and movement of objects.
But ghosts are no more evil than the living, despite the horror stories and
Hollywood hype. By revealing themselves or giving signs of their presence,
ghosts and spirits simply seek to communicate with us.

Dictionary on Poltergeist
Poltergeist:
German word meaning 'noisy or troublesome spirit'. Poltergeist activity may include unexplained noises, movements of objects, and outbreaks of fire, floods, pricks or scratches to a person's body. Unlike haunting, which are associated with specific locations, poltergeists typically focus on a person (the focal person or poltergeist agent) who is often a young child or adolescent. Many physical mediums experienced poltergeist activity in their childhood.

 | | | Poltergeists: Are You Sure You've Never Seen a Ghost?Many people have
seen or interacted with ghosts or non-physical beings without ever even being
aware that this was what was happening. Supernatural experiences don't
necessarily come with big neon signs on them; they're best recognized by the
telltale feeling that something unusual or important is happening. We often
shrug off those experiences that are strange and unexplainable, even really
astounding ones, because most of us just don't have a model for incorporating
anomalous experiences into our belief systems. What is magical to some is seen
as merely coincidental to others.

 | | | Poltergeists: Ghost PhotographyGhosts seem to manifest in a few interesting ways on film. The
most common seems to be as orbs that are not visible to the naked eye, yet
nevertheless show up on film as transparent orbs hanging in mid air. There are
quite a few theories as to why and how ghosts manage to show up on film when
our naked eyes fail to perceive them. Our brains filter most of what we see;
it's likely that we simply filter out that which does not make
"sense" to our minds.

 | | | Poltergeists: Encyclopedia II - Undead - Undead in games and popular cultureIn some stories and settings, such as the Lorien Trust LARP, the word "unliving" is used as a preferential synonym. In reference to the political correctness movement, the undead are sometimes jokingly referred to as the "living-impaired". Vampires were sometimes likewise referred to as "Undead Americans" by characters in the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the spin-off Angel.
In Dungeons & Dragons and similar systems, clerics can attempt to "turn" undead by invoking their patron deities or channeling "positive energ ...

 | | | Poltergeists: Encyclopedia II - Undead - Creation of undeadMary Wollstonecraft Shelley's novel Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus introduced a new variant on the dead that walk again, the dead brought back to 'life' by science, though Frankenstein's creature also bears some similarity to a golem. Similar works include H.P. Lovecraft's short story Herbert West, Re-Animator and the Re-Animator film franchise that it inspired.
In both legend and popular culture, various different methods of creating undead creatures are discussed. Most involve the reanimation of a corpse ...
