Stefan Starzyński - Soldier. Starzyński was born on January 19, 1893 in Warsaw. After finishing his gymnasium he joined the Faculty of Economy at the Higher School of Trade (Wyższe Kursy Handlowe), a private-run university. In 1909 he also joined various patriotic organizations, among them the Związek Strzelecki. The area of Kielce has been inhabitated at least since 5th century BC. Until 6th or 7th century the banks of the Silnica were inhabitated by Kelts who most probably were the name-sake for the location. Exact Polish losses are unknown, mostly because very little is known of the soldiers that were taken POW by the Germans. It is estimated that most of Polish soldiers were killed in action, with some 40 successfully withdrawing and additional 40 taken POW. These numbers however are not certain.
