Physical: Hindu - Hinduism Dictionary on Atman

atman: (Sanskrit) "The soul; the breath; the principle of life and sensation." The soul in its entirety - as the soul body (anandamaya kosha) and its essence (Parashakti and Parasiva). One of Hinduism's most fundamental tenets is that we are the atman, not the physical body, emotions, external mind or personality. In Hindu scriptures, atman sometimes refers to the ego-personality, and its meaning must be determined according to context. The Atma Upanishad (13) describes atman, or purusha, as threefold: bahyatman, the outer or physical person; antaratman, the inner person, excluding the physical form, who perceives, thinks and cognizes; and Paramatman, the transcendent Self God within. See: Paramatman, kosha, soul.

Physical: Encyclopedia II - Autism - Epidemiology

While the epidemiology of autism is largely unknown, there is no shortage of theories in the area. In part, the mystery of autism has been slow to resolve due to its relatively recent identification as a disorder, and because government funding of autism research lags far behind that of less common diagnoses, such as juvenile diabetes. What funding is available has largely been directed toward epidemiological research, rather than clinical studies investigating possible environmental triggers. In addition, in recent times the number of diagnosed inci ...

Physical: Encyclopedia II - DOCSIS - Transfer rate

Most DOCSIS cable modems have caps (restrictions) on upload and download rates. These are set by transferring a configuration file to the modem via TFTP when the modem first establishes a connection to the provider's equipment. As an example, Comcast, the largest cable provider in the United States, caps downstream bandwidth at 6 Mbit/s and upstream bandwidth at 384 kbit/s (48 kB/s) for standard home connections. In some areas they are offering 8 Mbit/s downstream and 768 kbit/s (96 kB/s) upstream as a more expensive higher tier. These differing speed offerings are made possible by loading a different configuration file into the modem ...

Physical: Encyclopedia II - Integral yoga - The yoga of synthesis

Sri Aurobindo describes the nature and practice of integral yoga in his opus The Synthesis of Yoga. As the title of that work indicates, his integral yoga is a yoga of synthesis, intended to harmonize the paths of karma-, jnana-, and bhakti-yoga as described in the Bhagavad Gita. It can also be considered a synthesis between Vedanta and Tantra, and even between Eastern and Western approaches to spirituality. Physical: Encyclopedia II - Mental plane - Predecessors of the concept

In India in the seventh century b.c.e., the Taittiriya Upanishad refered to five levels of self, of which the middle one is the "self made of mind" (manas) Although the text is describing the nature of the individal rather than the cosmos as a whole, it established the concept of mind as only one of a series of ontological layers of being. The most important arrow is the so-called thermodynamic arrow of time.
