Peter Russell: Encyclopedia II - History of Western Philosophy Russell - About the book

The book was written during the Second World War, having its origins in a series of lectures for a wide audience on the history of philosophy which Russell gave at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia during 1941 and 1942. Much of the historical research was done by Russell's third wife Peter (Patricia). In 1943, Russell received an advance of $3000 from the publishers Simon and Schuster, and between 1943 and 1944 he wrote the book while living at Bryn Mawr College. The book was published in 1945 in the USA and a year later in the UK. Altho ...

Peter Russell: Encyclopedia - 4AD Records

The British indie rock record label 4AD Records was started in 1979 by Ivo Watts-Russell and Peter Kent, funded by Beggars Banquet Records. It was originally formed as Axis Records, but this was quickly changed to 4AD when it became apparent that the name Axis was already being used by another music company. The 4AD logo is a spoof of the AAD Audio CD process designation. In 1980 Peter Kent left the company to start another label (also funded by Beggars Banquet): Situation Two Records. Shortly afterwards, Ivo invited the ...

Peter Russell: Encyclopedia II - Russell T. Davies - Doctor Who

Davies had long claimed that, independent productions such as his episode of Linda Green aside, he would only return to working for the BBC if he could be placed in charge of their famous, but then out-of-production, science-fiction series Doctor Who, of which he had been a fan since childhood. He had in fact been sounded out for such a venture by the BBC One Controller of the time, Peter Salmon, in 1999.
