x_Personal Growth: Encyclopedia II - Chatham Dockyard - Growth of the dockyard

The growing importance of the dockyard was illustrated between 1619-20 with the addition of two new mast ponds, and the granting of additional land on which a dock, storehouse, and various brick and lime kilns were planned. The renewed outbreak of war with Spain demonstrated the need for such readiness, and in 1710 land was ordered to be bought to improve the dockyard. By the year 1770 the establishment had so expanded that, including the gun wharf, it stretched a mile (1.6 km) in length, and included an area of in excess of 95 acres (38 ...

Stone parish church, dedicated to St Michael the Archangel, is at the south end of the town. It was commenced in 1753, and finished in 1758. Christ Church stands on the north side of the town, where the population is still increasing. It was erected in 1839. Stone is on the West Coast Main Line rail route, but inter-city trains do not stop. The M6 motorway bypasses the town. The canal still dominates the town, as witness the following: Commercial traffic has now been replaced by the leisure craft ...

x_Personal Growth: Encyclopedia II - Growth hormone treatment - Treatment of GH deficiency in children

Growth hormone deficiency is treated by replacing GH. All GH prescribed in North America, Europe, and most of the rest of the world is a synthetic copy of human GH, manufactured by recombinant DNA technology. As GH is a large protein molecule, it must be injected into subcutaneous tissue or muscle to get it into the blood. Nearly painless insulin syringes make this less trying than is usually anticipated but perceived discomfort is a subjective value. When a person has had a long-standing deficiency of GH, benefits of treatment are of ...

Perhaps the most famous person who exemplified the appearance of untreated congenital growth hormone deficiency was Charles Sherwood Stratton (1838-1883), who was exhibited by P.T. Barnum as General Tom Thumb, and married Lavinia Warren. Pictures of the couple appear to show the typical adult features of untreated severe growth hormone deficiency. Despite the severe shortness, limbs and trunk are proportional. Like many other 19th century medical terms which lost precise meaning as they gained wider currency, “midget” as a term for someone with severe proportional shortness acquired pejorative con ...

x_Personal Growth: Encyclopedia II - Juggling - Origins and History to 1947 A.D.

The act of juggling pre-dates any recorded history so the exact origins will never be known. The earliest known record of juggling, from the 15th Beni Hassan tomb of an unknown prince, shows female dancers and acrobats throwing balls. Juggling has also been recorded in most other early civilizations including China, India, Greece, Aztec (Mexico) and Polynesia. In Europe, juggling was an acceptable diversion until the decline of the Roman Empire, after which it fell into disgrace. Throughout the Middle Ages most histories were written ...

x_Personal Growth: Encyclopedia II - Juggling - Modern Juggling Culture

Since the late 1980s a large juggling subculture has developed, almost completely unknown and unrecognised by the general public. The scene revolves around local clubs and organisiations, special events, shows, magazines, websites, internet forums and, possibly most importantly, juggling conventions. In recent years there has also been a growing focus on juggling competitions. Populating the scene are many "juggling celebrities". These people are notable (or notorius) for being good or creative jugglers, entertaining performers, conve ...

x_Personal Growth: Encyclopedia II - Juggling - Forms of Juggling Performance

For the past hundred years, since the "Golden Age" of vaudeville, variety and circus to the present, a few methods of presenting juggling on stage have survived and remained popular with audiences. These Classic Forms include: The Gentleman Juggler - using everyday objects such as hats, canes, plates, wine bottles and cigars. Comedy Juggling - the juggling skill is secondary to the comic character and jokes of the performer. Traditional Circus Style - presenting pure skill with precision, skill and panac ...

x_Personal Growth: Dreams Interpretation Dictionary - Tree

Tree

(1) A tree may symbolize the life principle or the power of growth {the ability and need for personal growth}.

(2) It may symbolize the fulfilling of your destiny by surrendering to inner forces of growth and the guidance that comes from your unconscious, as distinct from such things as conscious planning and the will to achieve.

{3} A tree may present an antidote to personal {e.g. intellectual or moralistic} lopsidedness. Just as the tree can reach high in the sky only because it is strongly rooted in the earth, so it may be that spirituality cannot be arrived at except via sensuality, and that the full development of consciousness requires the assistance of the unconscious.

{4} A withered tree may symbolize the dried-up state of, for example, a person who has lived too much in the head, with doctrines and rigid rules taking the place of instinct {intuitiveness} and the natural power of growth.
