* Art of Wise Living Brings Great Joy

The art of wise living involves four steps: Plan purposefully, prepare prayerfully, proceed positively and pursue persistently.

The joy of wise living involves the art of joyous looking. There are two types of looking. You can look at the world with thoughts; you can also look at the world without thoughts, from a pure Being.

When you look at the world with thoughts, then you should be aware of the subtle pollution that exists. Thoughts come from memory, memory is the representation of an experience of the past, and so from the past you see the present. Hence, pollution happens.

* Two Kinds of Values: Eternal & Transitory

Recently, 65-year-old Kuttu Bai of Madhya Pradesh immolated herself on her husband’s pyre, sending shock waves across the country. There were a few, however, who remained unmoved.

Was sati really a part of Hindu religion, as is claimed by some?

Parvati, Shiva’s consort, is often referred to as ' Sati ’. Once, she went uninvited to attend a yagna her father was conducting. On hearing him speak derogatorily of Shiva, an upset and angry Parvati jumped into the fire. In another story, ' Sati ’ Savitri, a princess whose husband died barely a year after they got married, confronted Yamraj, the God of Death. Because of sheer persistence, Savitri managed to extract from him a boon of longevity for her husband. In return, she offered to follow Yamraj to his abode. However, there is no scriptural evidence of any woman committing sati on her dead husband’s pyre.

* Value System for the Enlightened Citizen

I would like to give you a message from Tawang. Now, Tawang is a virtual Shangri-La tucked away at an altitude of 3,000 metres in a misty corner of Arunachal Pradesh.

The people there seem truly happy and tranquil, living under the kindly umbrella of one of the world's oldest Buddhist monasteries. During a visit, I asked the chief monk at the monastery about the secret of Tawang's tranquillity that seemed to go beyond mere goodness. "You're the President of India. You know everything," he replied, ducking the question. When I persisted, he called out to all the 300 monks to come and sit around the imposing statue of the Buddha with us and delivered the following sermon: "If you look at 3,000 years of Indian history you'll find that this civilisation has always stood for peace. It worked for peace; it prayed for peace and it will live for peace. But these days, peace does seem to be in short supply.

* MysticismMagick Dictionaryon V.V.V.V.V.

V.V.V.V.V.
Crowley''s motto as temple master: Vi Veri Vniversum Vivus Vici -- "While still living, I have conquered the universe by dint of truth." These V''s appear as half the digits of a 10-digit clock with an "Eye of Horus" at the center. (See HOUSES OF MERCURY.)

They are referred to as "the footprints of the camel," the camel of the High Priestess, that is, which is the desert abyss that the magician must cross for himself. For Crowley, whose alter nomen was Perdurabo, this was an underscoring of his persistence.

* Encyclopedia II - Dash - Common dashes

Several forms of dashes exist, of which the most common are: Dash - Hyphen-minus. The hyphen-minus (-) is the ASCII character typically used as a hyphen, a minus sign, and a dash in ASCII computer files. This compromise made sense in the days of monospacing typewriters and early computers and persists mainly because standard keyboards do not have the keys for the separate characters. Strictly speaking, it is not a dash at all; thus, careful typesetting (including with modern computer applications, such as word processors and HTML) usually use ...

* Encyclopedia II - Anti-Mormonism - General trends in Anti-Mormonism

During the first 100 years of Mormonism, Anti-Mormonism focused on topics that did not conform to traditional Christian teachings (see Mormonism and Christianity). These doctrines took a view that Smith plagiarized scripture made up doctrines, and still persists in Anti-Mormon writing today. They characterized Smith as a charlatan, Brigham Young as a power-hungry leader and other successors as conformists. The methods used typically stereotyped Mormons and Church leaders as ignorant, uneducated and superstitious. They consigned Joseph Smith ...

* Spiritual - TheosophyDictionary on Shells

Shells Derivative from qelippoth in the Hebrew Qabbalah, having the sense of empty form. They are the astral remains of the lower parts of man disintegrating in kama-loka after the death of the physical body and the separation of the higher principles.

These shells persist for a short time in the case of the good, and for a long time in the case of the evil; and may be used as vehicles by various evil entities, or endowed with a temporary vitality by the necromancy of the seance room, which enables them in the physical phenomena of the seance room, whereby the ignorant very often pathetically mistake them for the spirits of the dead when they are in fact but astral phantoms.

* Encyclopedia II - Andrew Carnegie - Early career

Andrew Carnegie - 1850-1860: A 'self made man'. Andrew Carnegie's education and passion for reading was given a great boost by one Colonel James Anderson, who opened his personal library of 400 volumes to working boys each Saturday night. Carnegie was a most persistent borrower. Andrew Carnegie was a "self made man" in the roundest possible sense insofar as it applied not only to his economic development but also to his intellectual and cultural development. His capacity and willingness for hard work, his perseverance, and ...

* Encyclopedia II - Death Valley National Park - Human history

Death Valley National Park - Early inhabitants and passers-through. Four known Native American cultures have lived in the area during the last 10,000 years or so. The first known group, the Nevares Spring People, were hunters and gatherers who arrived in the area perhaps 9000 years ago (7000 BCE) when lakes were still in Death Valley and neighboring Panamint Valley—remnants of the once huge lakes Manly and Panamint. A much milder climate persisted at that time, and large game animals were still plentiful. By fi ...
