Parenting: Encyclopedia - Parenting

Parenting is the process of raising a child from birth until they reach adulthood. This task is usually done by the biological parents, but if the parents are unable or unwilling to provide care, the task is usually deferred to adoptive parents, foster parents, close relatives (including older siblings), godparents, or institutions (such as group homes or orphanages). An integral part of parenting is education of the child. (For further details on the education of children, see Education) Parenting - Aspects of pa ...

Parenting: Encyclopedia II - Parenting - Parenting assessment
There are several parent self-report measures that have been developed for use by clinicians and researchers to assess parenting, such as the Parenting Stress Index (PSI; Abidin, 1995) and Adult-Adolescent Parenting Inventory (AAPI; Bavolek, 1984). Parenting measures can also be observational, such as the Parent-Child Interaction Assessment-II (PCIA-II; Holigrocki, Kaminski, & Frieswyk, 1999). See: Abidin, R. (1995). Parenting: Encyclopedia II - Parenting - Aspects of parenting

Parenting - Parenting Methods and Practices. Parenting may involve praise, but it also involves punishment. Some parents no longer consider spanking a necessary punishment. The term "child training" implies a specific type of parenting that focuses on holistic understanding of the child. The "Taking Children Seriously" philosophy sees both praise and punishment as manipulative and harmful to the child and seeks other way to reach agreement with them. The term "attachment parenting" seeks to create strong emotiona ...

Parenting: The Fine Art Of Wise Parenting

Children are very creative. However when faced with failure, they might become dispirited. Good parenting can enable children to accept facts of life and persuade them to proceed proactively in a creative mode.

The challenge of life is in accepting the fact that 'life is not fair'. Once you accept this fact, a certain understanding is generated. This will enable you to accept whatever life gives you.

Parenting: Paint Your Child's World With Cheer

In my travels to different countries, it is always the children, filled with energy and hope, who leave me with the most lasting impression. When I gaze into their deep, clear eyes, I find myself profoundly encouraged. For in the deepest reaches of children's eyes shines the light of purpose, a natural sense of responsibility for the future of our planet.

Parenting: Encyclopedia II - Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder - Parenting

There is no compelling evidence that parenting methods can cause ADHD in otherwise normal children. Evidence does show that parents of ADHD children of experience more stress and depression, give more commands, spend less leisure time with their children, and vacililate between lax and harsh punishment. But further research shows that such parenting behavior is in large part a reaction to the child's ADHD and related disruptive and oppositional behavior and in a small part the result of the parent's own ADHD. According to parents, parenting ...

Parenting: Child Development and the Art of Parenting

We are the most complex and wonderful of God's creations. The human nervous system allows us to experience the richness of life. Our perceptions create reality. We become what we think. But the right environment is required to create the right perceptions. Hence bringing up a child is an art. It requires knowledge and forbearance, love and compassion. Merely thinking of it as a responsibility is insufficient.

Parenting: Parenting Indigo and Crystal Children: Parenting from the Heart

Parenting an Indigo or Crystal child is a special privilege in this time of turbulence and change. As a parent, you are contributing to etsablishing new patterns for parenting on the planet. You are partnering with your child in raising the resonance of the child/parent relationship to its highest possible level at this time.

The Indigo or Crystal child has come to the planet with its own "mission". As an Indigo it is here to challenge exisiting forms and beliefs, and as a Crystal it is here to teach empowerment and love. You, as the parents, are the partners in this mission of teaching and healing. You can help your child to fulfill its mission by understanding what is required of you. As a parent to an Indigo, you can expect to be challenged at every turn, but having the skills to handle these challenges will create and easier relationship between you and your Indigo. As the parent of a Crystal, you will have to deal with a very strong will and frequent power struggles. Again, having the parenting skills to cope with these issues will facilitate the growth and unfolding of your child.

Parenting: Are you parenting an Indigo child?

What is an Indigo child? The term "Indigo Child" was coined by psychic and synesthesiac Nancy Ann Tappe, who classified people's personalities according to the color of their auras. Usually each universal age is accompanied by a life color, and during each such age there is a prevalence of people born during that time with that corresponding life color.

Parenting: Creating a Spiritual Focus for Your Family interviews with the Padillas

Teresa and Ernie Padilla are the parents of a beautiful girl who is now into her teens. In 1997, they attended what is called a Spiritual Focus Weekend on the campus of the College of Metaphysics in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri. Here they gathered with several other parents and a mentor for the express purpose of coming to deeper awarenesses of themselves as parents. The weekend, combining instruction, discussion, practices, and an Intuitive Report on each child, fueled their aspirations and restructured the way they saw themselves as people and their daughter as a soul.

Parenting: A Different Kind of Memory   Birds of a Feather

Since he was born I have endeavored to faithfully record significant passages in Hezekiah's life. So far I have filled two notebook size journals with his life experiences and began a separate dream journal when he turned seven. I see this as part of the duty of being a parent. We are witness to the first steps the soul takes on the journey in this world.

Parenting: Hungry all the Time Insatiable Appetites for Learning

When Ki turned seven I knew it was time to organize my thoughts so I could give guidance and a sense of mental structure to his learning. Seven was when the ancient Greeks began to school their boys. Seven was when youth were admitted into monasteries. If it seems like a magical number, it is. The physical world is based upon cycles of seven. For a newly incarned soul, this means the first seven years of life the child is using the body constructed for him or her primarily by the genetics of both parents and the thoughts of the pregnant mother.

Parenting: Encyclopedia - Parental Advisory

Parental Advisory is a warning message affixed by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) to musical albums records and singles containing what the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) sees as explicit content in the United States. The label was introduced in 1985 by the RIAA after pressure from the National Parent-Teacher Association and Parents Music Resource Center. Many record stores refuse to sell albums containing the label (most notably ...

Parenting: Discover Yourself Through Children

Why have children? I often put this question to parents and I get varied answers: For the sheer joy of having them around, to ensure the continuity of the family tree, to produce heirs, for security in old age, and so on.

Others say that children enrich their lives. But how? I've always wanted to hear more on this, but they usually stop short of giving a deeper explanation.

In fact, very few parents have been able to give expression to the learning experience they undergo in the process of raising or interacting with children. Raising children or educating them is not just a one-sided affair where all learning / teaching flows from the parents or teachers to the child-students.

Parenting: The Grandparent Connection

Grandparents and grandchildren are often linked by a special affection for each other. There seems to be a natural bond between them, perhaps because both are a little outside the rush of life's middle years. When we look deeper into this relationship, however, we find traces of another pattern. We may discover one of the pathways connecting birth and death.

Parenting: Hindu view in Children and Parenting

Hinduism and Children: Hindus loves their children dearly. They believe that their children are gifts from gods and products of their previous karma. Many presume that their children were related to them in their past lives or were their close friends. Since a Hindu firmly believes in rebirth, he views his own life from a wider perspective that encompasses not just this life but many other lives that preceded it as well as succeed it, and his individual existence as a part of a great cosmic cycle.
