Objective senses: Sense-Objects, Manas And Bandhana

Sense-Objects, Manas And Bandhana

3. Through passion, a person longs for an object. He is infatuated with passion for objects. These two one should leave. The Niranjana or the Stainless should be sought after. All that one thinks is favourable to oneself should be abandoned.

Objective senses: Encyclopedia II - Aberration in optical systems - Analytic treatment of aberrations
The preceding review of the several errors of reproduction belongs to the Abbe theory of aberrations, in which definite aberrations are discussed separately; it is well suited to practical needs, for in the construction of an optical instrument certain errors are sought to be eliminated, the selection of which is justified by experience. In the mathematical sense, however, this selection is arbitrary; the reproduction of a finite object with a finite aperture entails, in all probability, an infinite number of aberrations. This number ...

Objective senses: Encyclopedia - Aberration in optical systems

Aberration in optical systems (lenses, prisms, mirrors or series of them intended to produce a sharp image) generally leads to blurring of the image. It occurs when light from one point of an object after transmission through the system arrives in different points. Instrument-makers need to correct optical systems to compensate for aberration. The articles reflection, refraction and caustic discuss the general features of reflected and refracted rays. Aberrations fall into two classes: chromatic aberrations ...

Objective senses: Of Vedic Philosophy - The Process Of Knowledge

The Process Of Knowledge: An object excites the senses. The mind arranges the sense-impressions into a percept. Egoism refers it to the Self. Intellect forms the concept. It converts the percept into a concept and presents it to the Purusha. Then there is knowledge of the object.

Objective senses: How to Steady the Mind

The external objects are continuously acting upon the brain. The sense-impressions reach the brain through sense-avenues and produce mental stimuli. Now you are conscious of the external objects. Consciousness may be caused by an awakening either by external stimulus, i.e., stimulus from a sense-impression or an internal stimulus through memory.

From "Easy Steps to Yoga" by Sri Swami Sivananda.

Objective senses: Swoon, Sleep, Death

A man lying in a swoon cannot be said to be awake because he does not perceive external objects by means of his senses. The man who returns to consciousness from a swoon says: “I was shut up in blind darkness; I was conscious of nothing.” A wakeful man keeps his body upright but the body of a swooning person falls down.

The death and dying and the life after death has always fascinated man. This is an excerpt from the book What Becomes Of The Soul After Death by Sri Swami Sivananda.

Objective senses: The Existence Of Matter

Our fixed point of reference is the existence of our sense data, and what they are like.

But the existence of the Self, the 'subject' of those sense data, is as questionable as that of the physical objects, the 'objects' of those sense data.

Different people looking at the same thing consider the physical object as accounting for the unity of various perspectives.

This begs the question, as to whether anything at all exists beyond my sense data.

Objective senses: Sambhavi Mudra and Laya Yoga

Laya Yoga

Laya is the state of mind when one forgets all the objects of senses and gets absorbed in the object of meditation. Laya enables one to have perfect control over the five Tattvas, mind and Indriyas. The fluctuations of mind will stop. The mind, body and Prana will be entirely subdued.

Objective senses: Vedic Philosophy - The Intellect And Its Functions

The Intellect And Its Functions: The intellect or the Buddhi is the most important of all the products of Prakriti. The senses present their objects to the intellect. The intellect exhibits them to the Purusha. The intellect discriminates the difference between Purusha and Prakriti.

Objective senses: Encyclopedia - Object

WordNet gives four main senses for the English noun object: a physical entity; something that is within the grasp of the senses; an aim, target or objective — see Object (task); a grammatical Object — either a direct object or an indirect object the focus of cognitions or feelings. Some specialized meanings are as follows: In computer science: An object is a language-supported mechanism for binding data tightly with methods that ...

Objective senses: Close 7 doorways to Maya - Shanmukhi mudra

Are you disturbed? Most people will say yes to that question. Don't worry you are not alone. The bondage that keeps us entangled in the world outside and disturbed in the world inside - are Desires.

At any point of time, any one of your senses is always at work, all the time running after objects of desire. The doorways to these desires in the human body are our sense organs.

Shanmukhi mudra is the technique to shut these doors to maya to be able to experience the real world, which lies within.

Objective senses: Nature Of Matter

We shall now take it for granted that matter, physical objects, the external world exist e.g. that there is a real table which exists independently of our sensations and of which the sensed qualities are the appearances.

The question is then: What is that matter like? To this question science provides one answer and it is very different from the answer of common sense belief.

Objective senses: Vedic Philosophy - Bondage And Release

Bondage And Release: Pleasure and pain result from the contact of soul, sense, mind and object. From pleasure arises desire. From pleasure derived from the enjoyment of garlands, sandal paste, women and other objects, Raga or desire is produced successively for pleasure of a similar kind or for the means of attaining it. From pain caused by snakes, scorpions, thorns and the like, aversion arises with regard to such pain or with regard to its source.

Objective senses: Encyclopedia - Object philosophy

In philosophy, an object is a thing, an entity, or a being. This may be taken in several senses. In its weakest sense, the word object is the most all-purpose of nouns, and can replace a noun in any sentence at all. (In ordinary usage, the word has something like this effect, but not as extreme.) Thus objects are things as diverse as the pyramids, Alpha Centauri, the number seven, my belief in predestination, and your mother's fear of dogs. Charles S. Peirce succinctly defines the broad notion of an object as follows: "By an object, I mean anything that we c ...

Objective senses: Encyclopedia - Odor

An odor (American English) or odour (Commonwealth English) is the object of perception of the sense of olfaction. Odors are also called smells. The term stench or pong is used to describe an unpleasant odor. The term fragrance or aroma is used primarily by the food and cosmetic industry to describe a pleasant odor. Odors correspond to the objective phenomenon of chemicals dissolved in air, although, as with other senses, psycholog ...

Objective senses: Encyclopedia - Numina

Numina ("presence", singular numen) is a Latin term for deity and conveys the sense of immanence, of the sacred spirit that informs places and objects in Roman religion. The multiplication of names for Italic gods may obscure this sense of numinous presence in all the mundane actions of the natural world. The word numen is also used by sociologists to refer to the idea of magical power residing in an object, particular when writing about ideas in the western tradition. When used in this sense, num ...

Objective senses: Encyclopedia - Percept

A percept is the resultant of perceiving. It is the representation of an external event that affected the senses and which - by perceptual processing - caused the activation of a certain category in the mind, i.e., the percept. The term percept is typically used in contrast to the terms distal stimulus (the external object) and proximal stimulus (the physical stimulation pattern on the senses, e.g., the pattern of light wavelength pro ...

Objective senses: Encyclopedia - Value judgment

A value judgment is a judgment of the rightness or wrongness of something based on a particular set of values or on a particular value system. The term is usually employed, often in a disparaging sense, to imply that a statement is not objectively true, but is 'merely' a value judgment, distinguishing between an objective statement of fact or a conclusion reached logically through rational analysis, and a statement or conclusion reached owing to the specific values or value system held by the one asserting it. Since it can be a ...

Objective senses: Encyclopedia - Algebraic structure

In higher mathematics, "algebraic structure" is a loosely-defined phrase referring to the mathematical objects traditionally studied in the field of abstract algebra: sets with operations. The word "structure" can refer to a specific mathematical object or an even more abstract concept. For example, the monster group simultaneously is an algebraic structure, and it has an algebraic structure: the structure shared by all groups. This article uses both senses of the phrase. Algebraic structure - In the ...
