 | | | Objective senses: Encyclopedia II - Aberration in optical systems - Analytic treatment of aberrations
The preceding review of the several errors of reproduction belongs to the Abbe theory of aberrations, in which definite aberrations are discussed separately; it is well suited to practical needs, for in the construction of an optical instrument certain errors are sought to be eliminated, the selection of which is justified by experience. In the mathematical sense, however, this selection is arbitrary; the reproduction of a finite object with a finite aperture entails, in all probability, an infinite number of aberrations. This number ...

 | | | Objective senses: How to Steady the MindThe external objects are continuously acting upon the brain. The sense-impressions reach the brain through sense-avenues and produce mental stimuli. Now you are conscious of the external objects. Consciousness may be caused by an awakening either by external stimulus, i.e., stimulus from a sense-impression or an internal stimulus through memory. From "Easy Steps to Yoga" by Sri Swami Sivananda. Read more here: » Mind: How to Steady the Mind |

 | | | Objective senses: The Existence Of Matter Our fixed point of reference is the existence of our sense data, and what they are like. But the existence of the Self, the 'subject' of those sense data, is as questionable as that of the physical objects, the 'objects' of those sense data. Different people looking at the same thing consider the physical object as accounting for the unity of various perspectives. This begs the question, as to whether anything at all exists beyond my sense data. | | | Objective senses: Sambhavi Mudra and Laya YogaLaya Yoga Laya is the state of mind when one forgets all the objects of senses and gets absorbed in the object of meditation. Laya enables one to have perfect control over the five Tattvas, mind and Indriyas. The fluctuations of mind will stop. The mind, body and Prana will be entirely subdued. | | | Objective senses: Nature Of Matter We shall now take it for granted that matter, physical objects, the external world exist e.g. that there is a real table which exists independently of our sensations and of which the sensed qualities are the appearances. The question is then: What is that matter like? To this question science provides one answer and it is very different from the answer of common sense belief. | | | Objective senses: Vedic Philosophy - Bondage And ReleaseBondage And Release: Pleasure and pain result from the contact of soul, sense, mind and object. From pleasure arises desire. From pleasure derived from the enjoyment of garlands, sandal paste, women and other objects, Raga or desire is produced successively for pleasure of a similar kind or for the means of attaining it. From pain caused by snakes, scorpions, thorns and the like, aversion arises with regard to such pain or with regard to its source. | | | Objective senses: Encyclopedia - Object philosophyIn philosophy, an object is a thing, an entity, or a being. This may be taken in several senses.
In its weakest sense, the word object is the most all-purpose of nouns, and can replace a noun in any sentence at all. (In ordinary usage, the word has something like this effect, but not as extreme.) Thus objects are things as diverse as the pyramids, Alpha Centauri, the number seven, my belief in predestination, and your mother's fear of dogs. Charles S. Peirce succinctly defines the broad notion of an object as follows:
"By an object, I mean anything that we c ...
