| | | | No Doubt: Encyclopedia II - Dawson's Creek - MusicThe theme song, "I Don't Wanna Wait" was written and performed by Paula Cole. For the first season, international broadcasts used "Run Like Mad", performed by Jann Arden, but switched to Cole's song for the remainder of the run. The producers originally planned to use Alanis Morissette's "Hand in My Pocket" for the theme (it was used in the original pilot) but she would not grant them permission and Cole's song was substituted. There were two soundtrack albums, the first selling far better than the second. (Though both albums carried sticker ...

| | | | No Doubt: Encyclopedia II - Hot 100 Airplay - Album Cut ImplementationAfter December 5, 1998, songs could chart on the Hot 100 with just airplay points. However, before they were allowed onto the Hot 100, they had to make the Top 75 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart. Songs that charted on the Hot 100, without being issued with a commercial single release were known as album cuts. These album cuts however, were not very strong initially and did not usually chart very high; the first airplay-only single to hit number one came in Jun ...

| | | | No Doubt: Encyclopedia II - Music of Jamaica - 1980s: Dancehall and raggaDuring the 1980s, the most popular muscially related entertainment styles in Jamaica were dancehall and ragga. 'Dancehall' is essentially speechifying with musical accompaniment including a basic rock drum beat (more often played on electric drums rather than acoustic) and pop lyrics rather than the former political and spiritual lyrics popular in the 1970s. Ragga is characterized by the use of computerized beats and sequenced melodic tracks. Ragga is usually said to have been invented with "(Under Me) Sleng Teng" by Wayne Smith (1985 ...

At the left end of this area, a "pitch arrow" shows the pitch which the player is singing and provides feedback on whether he's hitting the notes. A "crowd meter" shows the mood of the crowd as the p ...

| | | | No Doubt: Encyclopedia II - Music history of the United States - 1970sThe early 1970s saw popular music being dominated by folk-based singer-songwriters like John Denver, Carol King and James Taylor, followed by the rise of heavy metal subgenres, glam, country rock and later, disco. Philly soul and pop-funk was also popular, while world music fusions became more commonplace and a major klezmer revival occurred among the Jewish community. Beginning in the early 70s, hip hop arose in New York City, drawing on diverse influences from both white and black folk music, Jamaican toasting and the performance poetry of Gil Scott-Heron.

| | | | No Doubt: Encyclopedia II - Dawson's Creek - StyleThe show was shot like a motion picture using a single camera and often filmed on location, rather than being largely studio bound. The show used warm colors, similar to Party of Five, rather than the cold, harsh look of shows such as The Practice. While most of the episodes were conventional, there were two Rashomon-like episodes exploring a story from differing perspectives, and the somber fifth season episode "Downtown Crossing" featured only one regular, Joey, and her interaction with a mugger. The fourth season episode "The Unusual Suspects", was filmed as a film noir detective story, with camera ...

In this mid-tempo ballad, Carey declares herself "stupid" and "foolish" for ending a relationship on the wrong terms. She wants her ex-lover to come back to her, as when he left she lost a part of herself. The song features a blend of quiet storm ambiance and hip-hop-style singing, leading to a traditional Carey climax where the pitch rises an o ...
