Neck Dictionary: Mysticism Magick Dictionary on APOTROPAIC

APOTROPAIC

Lit. "turning away", descriptive of any protective device (such as garlic worn around the neck to fend off vampires). It applies to the "Eye of Horus", which is a wooden phallus used to ward off the "evil eye". All apotropaics, however, are defenses against some sort of "eye" and the purpose of such an object is to engage the attention of said eye and thereby detour its malevolence. Hence, the more startling or original the device, the better.

Neck Dictionary: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Gorgon

Gorgon (Greek) In Greek mythology, three sisters with wings, brazen claws, enormous teeth, and serpents instead of hair on their heads. The one usually meant is the mortal Medusa, once a beautiful maiden turned into a gorgon by the gods. She was overcome by Perseus who avoided her fatal glance, which would have turned him to stone, by using a mirror.

Pegasus, the winged horse, sprang from her severed neck. Evidently the gorgons represent one of the powers which rule the lower realms of nature which have to be overcome by the aspirant to wisdom in the initiatory trials.

Neck Dictionary: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Pantacle, Pentacle

Pantacle or Pentacle An amulet, talisman, a geometrical figure so used. There is much confusion as to the derivation of this word, but it seems most likely that it comes through Italian and French from the root pend- "to hang," and so is equivalent to a pendant or charm hung about the neck.

From the fact that one form of pentacle was the pentagram or star-pentagon, the word itself has been connected with the Greek pente (five). The word is used specially in The Secret Doctrine to denote the pentagram or pentalpha. The Solomon's seal is another pentacle, and there are many others, including the sigils of the seven planets.

Neck Dictionary: Dream Interpretation Dictionary - Lock

Lock

  • To dream of a lock, denotes bewilderment. If the lock works at your command, or efforts, you will discover that some person is working you injury. If you are in love, you will find means to aid you in overcoming a rival; you will also make a prosperous journey.
  • If the lock resists your efforts, you will be derided and scorned in love and perilous voyages will bring to you no benefit.
  • To put a lock upon your fiance'e's neck and arm, foretells that you are distrustful of her fidelity, but future episodes will disabuse your mind of doubt.

Neck Dictionary: Spiritual Sanskrit Dictionary on Asana

Asana: Posture: is to be seated in a position which is firm but relaxed. Asana means two things: the place on which the yogi sits and the manner in which he sits there. To take a position in which one can sit absolutely still and erect holding the chest, neck and head in a straight line but without strain. Holding the body erect helps in keeping the mind clear and present so that as the prana begins to flow more freely it is not stop by restrictions in the posture.
