Nara: Encyclopedia - Yehe Nara

The Yehe Nara were a Manchu clan who ruled Yehe, one of the Hūlun Four States. Yehe Nara resisted Nurhaci to the very end, but was absorbed by force in 1619. As Yehe Nara died, he reportly cursed Nurhaci by saying that a woman from the Yehe Nara clan will lead to the downfall of the Manchu dynasty. This curse seemingly became reality as Empress Dowager Ci Xi's disastrous rule help lead to the downfall of the Qing Dynasty in 1912. Empress Dowager Ci Xi came from this clan. Nara: Spiritual - Theosophy Dictionary on Nara

Nara (Sanskrit) [cf Sanskrit nri, Zend nar, Greek aner Latin nero]

A man; in the Mahabharata and the Puranas, sometimes used as an equivalent for cosmic Purusha -- the primordial universal Man, or the hierarchical essence pervading the solar system often associated with Narayana, both being considered as cosmic rishis.

The Bhagavad-Gita makes a poetic identification of Arjuna or the human monad with Nara, and Krishna or the Logos with Narayana -- this distinction showing the same suggestive difference in the human sphere that exists between Nara and Narayana in the cosmic.

In the plural, used in the Mahabharata and Puranas for a class of mythological beings closely allied with the gandharvas and kinnaras. Naras are described as being "Centaurs, men with the limbs of horses and human bodies" (SD 2:65n).

Nara: Encyclopedia II - Nara Prefecture - History

Historically, Nara Prefecture was also known as Yamato-no-kuni or Yamato Province. It is certain that a political force established at the foot of Mt. Miwa in the east of Nara Basin succeeded in unifying most parts of Japan from the third century until the fourth century, though the process was not well documented. At the dawn of history Yamato was clearly the political center of Japan. Due to connections with the southern parts of the Korean Peninsula, many continental immigrants were introduced into the metropolitan regions t ...
